Well crap...oh well, even if the Yanx had gotten swept, I don't think that Hal has the balls to move on from Cashman and Boone, ...which is what needs to happen.

Volpe hustle's, scores another with a slide into home, beats the throw from Lux at shallow 2nd
    GT 3 run bomb
La Bomba Soto still hitting, still hustling...
Even Judge joins in with a single to LF.

11-4 Yankees win as the sweep is avoided and we get another night of baseball.

Could be Cole's last start as a Yankee.

Probably just a no brainer to add the extra year for Cole. I can’t see the Yankees wanting to find another ace on top of everything else.

Doubt at this stage and with a questionable elbow Cole is getting that money and years from anyone else at his age now

Yes, they can certainly do that, and I would consider it if it were for only 1 year. But if he does opt out and the Yanx then "opt back in" it means that his current remaining contract that is for 4 more years, adding a year would then make his contract for a total of 5 more years which would make him 39 years old in his final year...and I don't thing the last 3 years of that contract (37, 38, and 39 years old) will be very pretty. Cole will be 35 next season...IMO, Boras will try to convince him to opt out, and if he does I think the Yanx should let him walk. Think of what the Yanx could do with the money by not signing Soto, Cole, Rizzo, et al...roughly $90Mil+.

Cole is still a good pitcher but has injury concerns. (possible TJ surgery) And he's not the shut down ace we thought we were getting and he has not been the same ever since they banned all pitchers from using that stickum stuff in June 2021. His spin rate is still good but lower than it was pre-mid 2021.

Bottom line is that the Yanx (Cashman) don't know how to draft and develop home grown talent. Unless I'm mistaken, the last pitcher the Yanx drafted that ever amounted to anything was.................... wait for it...............Andy Pettitte. (22nd round of the 1990 draft)
