As we checked into the hotel an hour ago here in Memphis, I asked him if he knew he only needed 5 more 3s made to qualify for league rankings...... he smiled and said he would have no problem getting that with 3 games left! A little swag....... I like that!
I am more confident with Luke playing with additional minutes. He definitely looks more comfortable out there and less panicked on his roll, etc. His defense needs improvement but he is shooting the 3 ball which is something the team hasn't had a consistent 3 pt scorer in a long time. I will be happy to see him as a second unit getting decent minutes.
way back in 2011 Wesley Matthews was 7th in the entire league in 3 pointers made while shooting 41% STOMP
For the month of April (2011-2012 season) Wesley Matthews hit 29 / 65 on 3's which is 44.61% at an average of 37 min per game. Luke Babbitt hit 20 / 47 on 3's which is 42.55% at an average of 21 min per game. Even though Babbitt had less playing time, and lessor FGM / FGM vs Matthews in total points, Babbitt's PER is going up and the amount of him hitting his 3 pointers were catching up to Matthews. Now in terms of a diverse skill level and ball handling Matthews has more arsenal than Babbitt but for a 3 point shooter coming off the second unit Babbitt so far has a very low salary demand. He would be worth resigning playing the backup role behind Batum.
Yeah, our "defensive minded coach" got us far into the playoffs didn't he? Bring on D'Antoni! I'm sick of boring Nate-ball.
The thing is, Matthews alternates between 8 of 10 games and 1 of 7 games, so the consistency is lacking despite good overall percentages.
nobody shoots 40% from 3 point range every night, so no one would qualify as a consistent threat? Really? here's a link to WM's lines from last season... http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/matthwe02/gamelog/2011/ STOMP
No, not at all, but how many 40% shooters are as hot and cold as Wes? This year has been especially bad; last year not quite so much.
last season was the one being discussed, and the question was whether he was a consistent threat from 3's. If a player is nailing +40% from deep overall while shooting a high volume of shots, they're a threat that garners attention/stretches the D every night. He wasn't any more hot and cold then Ray Allen or TP back in the day or anyone else. for comparison, here's Porter's game log for the 1990-91 season when at 27 he had arguably his best season as a Blazer and shot his highest % from 3's (0.415%)... http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/portete01/gamelog/1991/ STOMP
As of right now: 12.88 From the wiki on PER: # Pretty good player: 15.0 # In the rotation: 13.0 # Scrounging for minutes: 11.0
Not PER related, but in case anyone's wondering, Babbitt basically needs to go 3-4 from 3 (or better) against Utah in order to pass Steve Novak for the league lead in 3 pt percentage.
"The" HCP is correct. http://blogs.trailblazers.com/BroadcasterProfile/BroadcasterBlog/tabid/188/EntryID/3816/BroadcasterID/4/Default.aspx
