    anyway, the whole point of this is that it's easy to ignore the immoral methods that you receive your cheap consumer goods from, until they start coming with distress letters from the actual human beings (speaking your language, conveniently) that are producing them.

    if every chinese product had a letter in it, it would likely spark a substantial amount of change, most likely outlawing the chinese to read or write

    Really? Where did you read this? It's not me doubting you, but I'd like to see the research. Our parent company is based in Germany, and they think we're ridiculously spoiled with our salaries and wages. I mean, salespersons over there are making 40% of what we're making. The difference for them is that the company has to put away some ridiculous percentage (maybe 20%, maybe 50%) of the salary away for "retirement", in addition to the salary. Plus, they pay their healthcare. This is all from talking with my boss, so my figures aren't totally right, but just discussing some of this with him, I would have gotten the impression we make quite a bit more than they do in Germany.
