Hopefully you knew who Grover Cleveland was too. But the point is there is a difference between those who have been president in your living memory, and those who were president before you were born. Good luck kicking the glue habit, by the way. You've admitted you have a problem, that's the first step. barfo
HCP, mostly the debates are good, heated, and predictable - mine included! That said, it definitely gets very close to the line sometimes, and actually that's why I took a 6 month break this past year. It got too close for comfort! I think Riverman has it right when he says there aren't a lot of opportunities in "real life" to have these debates. When it's not personal, it's interesting.
Well said. Also, I've literally read almost every thread in the last 5 months. Aside from the occasional (moron, asshole, fuck off, etc.) comments, I really don't see each side being THAT belligerent to each other as you describe to which you would have to ignore people because of it. I don't get offended easily, if ever, so perhaps I am missing something, I ignore no poster. But PtldPlatypus has it right with what he said. Interesting take I guess on the OT boards... Kind of a bummer too, honestly.
Me too. Its funny. You can want to give on a personal level without wanting to give on a large scale, enabling a percentage of the public and allowing them to sit on their ass and collect checks. Just sayin. Liberal Republican here... lol And the rest of you can SUCK IT! (Is that how its done in the OT?)
I do not have anyone on ignore. I believe ignoring someone says more about the tunnel vision of the person doing the ignoring than the person being ignored. Also, sometimes people have a bad day, and bring their frustrations to the OT forum. Without naming anyone, we have a poster that has always made quality posts. But one recent day he went sideways and made several over the top personal comments about other posters. I wrote several responses, but did not post any of them. After looking at his posts for the day, it was clear he was upset about something. I have no idea why he was off center, but saw no reason to push him further in the wrong direction. Sometimes walking away from a thread is the best option.
