Seems like giving it 3 months is a good idea. He either fits or he doesn't. We will know by then. Sure the possibility of him getting injured is a risk but unless someone offers us a good young forward I am okay with giving it a shot. Yes, he is another guard, but being 230 lbs keeps him from being a duplication.
Makes sense to me. He can mentor the young guys to start the season and, if somebody needs PG help at the deadline, the Blazers may get a bigger return then.
Can someone do a schedule breakdown? If Brogdon isn’t worth 1sts, he’s still a valuable vet on this team. Things can can re-evaluated in December or the trade deadline.
Thought of starting a new thread for it, but didn't want to get yelled at. I'm sure someone has mentioned it in one of the dozen trade threads on here, but with presumably hanging on to Brogdon at least to start the season, was realizing how much this year's trade deadline, if we are in dead last, will center around our team. I love the depth that we have started to build, but if we're garbage, and looking again to bottom out, Joe's going to have one busy phone around the deadline. Need a PG/SG? We got one in Brogdon on a reasonable 2 year/20 million per deal. Easy enough for teams to match. Need a defensive C? We got Williams, also on a reasonable contract easily matched. Need a scoring/defensive wing that could be a good #3? We got that in Grant. We'll be sitting on 3 pieces that could easily slide in to anyone's lineup and be a big boost for the stretch run.
It took me a few days to get comfortable with it, but I think you just move the lion's share of Sharpe's minutes to the 3 and give Brogdon his 26mpg between the 1 and 2 and show Ant and Scoot how it's done. And if that's concerning, guys like Vince and Kobe spent a lot of time at the 3 when they were in their first/second years too. Shae is still figuring his game out and he'll still get ~25-30m. Move Brogdon at the deadline and that's when you start Sharpe and move Murray and Camara into the rotation.
Nice to get a guy here who has always been a thorn in our side. I remember watching him playing smothering defense on Lillard while he was in Indiana
good points I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that because if the Blazers have a fire sale on their best veterans, they will be consigning themselves to years in the lottery. I don't mind, much, a couple more years of high draft picks, but moving Grant, Brogdon, & Williams would leave the cupboard pretty bare
are you sure it was Brogdon on Dame? Dame averaged 23 & 9 with a .667 TS% in two games in 2018-19. He played one game against the Pacers in 2019-2020 and had 50 points and 13 assist with an .832 TS%. The next season, 23 & % with a .630 TS%
I think we'll keep Williams if that gives you any comfort but I think both Jerami and Malcolm will go to the highest bidder before the deadline. I think one of the players we get from sending those two out will be a versatile forward who is 25 or under. I think Matisse could also be traded around the deadline. If by the end of the seasons we have upgraded one of the forward spots and can upgrade the other at the draft I think a team full of young players with likely a decade or more of playing ahead of each member of the rotation, then I think next season we will at least make the playins and the season after no one will want to face us in the playoffs.
Wow just saw on BBRef that the Brogdon draft pick was traded away by the Blazers in 2013 when we acquired Robin Lopez! It was a 2016 2nd round pick from the Pelicans that we apparently had at the time, it got sent to Sacramento in that 3 way trade. Not sure if we already had the pick acquired from an earlier trade or BBRef just has misleading wording on it actually being NOP own pick prior to the trade. I thought we got Lopez for two 2nd round pick so would make more sense if we already had the pick. Sacramento a few days later traded that pick away to Milwaukee for Luc Mbah a Moute. 3 years later the Bucks picked Brogdon with that 36th pick. He played there 3 years, then Indy 3 years, and then last year in Boston as 6MOY. WELCOME HOME MALCOLM!
10 years after the ROLO trade we still have a 35 year old Robin Lopez in the NBA - in Milwaukee where Brogdon first ended up - but alongside Stotts and a Mr Damian Lillard. Never would have imagined.
