Draymond Green is probably the closest thing to those guys nowadays. Zach Collins had the potential till injuries happened. Marcus smart is another good one but doesn’t fit the roster with the way how it constructed right now. Maybe Little can become that guy or Greg brown
Wow! Thanks for letting me know about this Netflix documentary! Very well done. I remember it all and back then I just couldn’t believe Stern’s actions. Worse yet, when he states the vote was unanimous, “1 to nothing.” Arrogance all in the name of the league and its image. But what about the safety of the players? I don’t think the same thing would go down today. I hope that this whole mess will never happen again. But with what i see happening (daily) in Portland, Seattle, New York, San Francisco and Chicago - it won’t be long before we see something similar happen again. What a shame.
You meant “false equivalence” ? Allow me to clarify by saying that my comments were my opinion. I’m cool with agreeing to disagree with yours. I find no need to clap about it really.
I've been wracking my brains trying to think of who'd be the closest to an Artest type. Here are the candidates: Draymond: great, but not crazy, so therefore GS would never get fed up with him and trade him Jimmy Butler: even closer, but locked up by Miami Marcus Smart: now you're talking. Not as big as Artest, but super stocky and super-strong. Not as crazy, but he's got a bit of a crazy streak. Like Artest, you don't really know what you'll get on offense, which is probably why apparently Brad Stevens is open to moving him. The dream: get him for DJJ and maybe Anfernee? Picks? Unlikely, though - he's one of the most popular Celtics among the fans. But what if it took CJ? I wasn't really joking when I posted this in the other thread, but just openly wondering. Better: what if we could somehow get Smart and Larry Nance Jr. for CJ? That would help Chauncey improve our defense... We'd definitely be a better defensive team, but we'd probably struggle to score, unless Anfernee suddenly jumps to 20 ppg or something.
People wanted to see artest Vs. Ben Wallace in a PPV fight after this event happened. After watching, it seems like Artest is more like a scared child than a huge hardass. I think it is pretty clear Ben Wallace would have been able to take him.
Don't forget about Bobby Portis; he's about on the same level as Smart but in different ways. Remember what Portis did to his OWN TEAMMATE in Chi. aka broke dude's jaw or something like this in practice? Portis was called "crazy-eyes" BUT probably more than the "eyes" were/are crazy
I though it really put into perspective how much views have shifted for the better over the years. That seems like not that long ago to me, and yet the media was calling the players thugs and talking about their upbringings and their shortcomings. Pretty offensive stuff, and pretty imbalanced. And pretty rude considering it was a fan that set things off in the first place and fans turned it from a surreal moment into bedlam. I think talk of a guaranteed championship is silly (see Trail Blazers cerca 2000), but there is no doubt David Stern and the NBA did the players wrong. The players were the vulnerable party in this situation. I don't how know how many players were involved, but let's say 12. So, 12 against THOUSANDS of fans, throwing things from all directions, flooding the court. It was so incredibly dehumanizing. In what world is that on the players? Obviously our world, but it just seems warped. Good documentary.
Was good. i just surfed the last 12 pages looking for the “cutting the cord” thread for people getting rid of cable Nd couldn't find it. Not meaning to derail this thread but does Anyone know the title of that thread? im about to lose direct link which means i lose the ez video app aNd will no longer get live tv.
