Wait until the season is over, take the two draft picks, and say goodbye. Don't throw Manny away ALONG WITH two promising young players. That's idiotic.

They're paying 7 million to the Dodgers anyway, so for arguments sake, put Bay's salary up to 14.5 mil. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ghoti @ Jul 31 2008, 05:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Jeez. Let me preface this by saying I am the biggest Manny Ramirez fan on Earth. I am not upset with this deal. The Red Sox decided it was time for him to go, so they had to get a deal done. I was scared they weren't going to get something in return that would allow them to remain competitive this year. Jason Bay is younger and can easily replace the stats Manny has put up the last two years. Moss is not an everyday player on a championship team, and Hansen didn't seem to have what it takes to pitch in the majors. Of all the players the Red Sox could have traded, I was glad it was them. They were decent prospects, but I never saw either of them contributing here. Maybe they'll do well for the Pirates, but that's like doing well in AAA as far as I'm concerned. With that said, I will miss Manny alot and I'm sad to see him go. Of all the guys that have left the team recently, him and Pedro were my favorites. Manny was probably the most important player on two world series teams, and he should forever be remembered in Boston for that.
Frankly, if Manny hadn't putt your balls in a guillotine, you'd have gotten much more. That's the only thing I'd be pissed off about, as a Red Sox fan. (And that 9 million that could be spent on international prospects.)
I disagree that we could have gotten more for a two month rental. We probably had to give up more to get Bay in return, but like I've said I really don't care about losing Moss or Hansen. They were second tier prospects in the Red Sox organization.
