You don't hire shooting coaches and expect them to question your system...he's the head coach...my reference is player development skills...he's got a great rep for developing players from the minor leagues through a championship Mavs squad.....Terry Stotts knows a lot about fundamentals....he addresses lack of execution when we play badly...how would you hear what Stotts is open to? We don't even know we're trading for Nurk until hours before the fact...the Blazers don't air their laundry in the public forum..I completely understand why. Stotts got the team a division championship in the toughest division in the NBA this season...you don't do that faking basketball knowledge...I'm a fan of his....I understand many around here are not. I agree he has two assistant coaches who do great individual skill development. I don't see any development in team play outside of pick and roll and even on those the passing is often poor. By team play I guess I am talking about passing and decision-making as far as when to move and where to move to.

I completely agree but to me, that's execution, not coaching....Stotts also has put guys in position for wide open shots...they just didn't make enough of them. It's not the system from my view...it's execution...over dribbling and not making the extra pass often enough.

Lillard's style is more methodical than full speed ahead. Also, think back to his first couple years in the league. He was actually quite lousy at attacking the rim.

DE is more in-depth, but a PITA to use. I find NBADraft.net plenty accurate for getting a sense of the players. As long as you know how to form your own opinion while gathering information... I know, it's a lost art in the world these days.

That still seems decision based to me. I feel like he could be very good if he did it consistently..

Every day Terry Stotts is still our coach, is another day I have high doubts we win a championship.

    Same goes for Olshey.

Doesn't mean I won't watch every game that I can, like I have for a long time, but I can still have my doubts.

If that doesn't make me a fan, that's on you, not me.

I would disagree with this on the surface.

Great leaders will surround themselves with smart people who disagree with them.
If everyone thinks the same then how can they think outside the box, solve problems, etc?

I know i love it when one of my employees comes back at me with a different idea that may improve things.

That's like saying that being a good shooter is decision based. Most people can improve at most things if they devote enough practice time to it, but at what cost to their other skill sets?

One thing we know about Lillard is he will continually work on his weaknesses and improve his game. That's what makes him such a special player as he is very motivated to make this team successful.

I'd go for that. Is there anything more beautiful in a basketball game then great passing leading to a win?

You say this, yet you want to bring back the same team that was DEAD LAST IN NBA IN ASSISTS... because Neil tells you it’s successful

A good business manager is always open to hiring people who may question what he's doing so long as it's reasonable and as long as after careful consideration and the manager ruling the question as inaccurate, the hire does his best to implement the manager's decision. All of this assumes that the decision is ethical and not one that leads to a real disaster.

In this case a real disaster would be losing several games by huge margins or losing so many games that it gets embarrassing. In this case, the best course of action would be to speak to the GM or resign.

Ball movement alone does not equate to more assists.

Better shooters making more shots off of ball movement is what increases assists.

So whats needed more? More ball movement or better shooters?

Adding more shooters won’t change Dame and CJ dribbling away most of the shot clock... also, were do expect to find these elite difference making shooters when the team is over the cap and you refuse to trade our only asset in CJ

When did I say more? I'm saying better, and yes it will. If they trust the guy is gonna knock down the shot, then they will feel confident in not doing it on their own. Hence more passing and probably earlier in the set.

Who said I refuse to trade CJ?

Who said these are elite difference making shooters?

Wow, do you run marathons often? cause you sure ran with that one and said I said a bunch of things I didnt....

We went from 2 seasons ago with basically the same team being a bottom defense team to a top defensive team...we're not a team of 36 year old vets...passing needs to improve...during our win streak passing did improve...then guys got tired and hero balled more in the playoffs....great players will adapt, watch film and fill in the gaps in their games

Dude, I can’t keep track of who all the posters are in here and every detail of what they say... all I know is it’s a pretty clear divide between those who buy everything Neil is selling and those who see there is no way Dame/CJ will ever be a legit contender. And since Neil says he won’t ever entertain trading CJ... I assume Neil supporters refuse to trade CJ as well, or else why defend Neil?
