yup New York Daily News: Upset the Nets have not offered him a maximum contract extension, Kenyon Martin has asked to be traded, the Daily News has learned. A Nets source told The News that Martin is offended by the Nets' offer of an estimated $65 million to $70 million over six years, which is well short of the $85 million to $90 million the 2000 No.1 overall pick is seeking. According to the source, Martin's agent, Brian Dyke, asked Nets president Rod Thorn for a trade earlier this week. "I have no comment," Dyke said when contacted last night. Martin and Thorn, who is out of town, could not be reached. Before Dyke requested a trade, however, the Nets were already discussing one with the Blazers. According to Nets and Blazers sources, the teams talked about a deal that would send Martin and Dikembe Mutombo to Portland for Rasheed Wallace and Arvydas Sabonis. Sabonis will earn $7million this season and has two years left on his contract. However, his contract is not guaranteed until Aug.15, which means a team can waive the 38-year-old center to save money. The 6-11 Wallace, a 28-year-old two-time All-Star, will earn $17 million this season before becoming a free agent. Kevin Garnett will also become a free agent, and the Nets would love to make a run at the Timberwolves superstar next year. However, former Nets and new Blazers GM John Nash, who is looking to cut salary and improve the image of the team, is not interested in adding Mutombo's gigantic contract, which still has two years and $37.6 million remaining. Martin will earn $5.1 million and become a restricted free agent if he does not agree to an extension before Oct. 31. Other trade scenarios were rumored to be discussed, according to a source, but appear to be dead. full article http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketba...05p-97314c.html
Thats absolutley discusting that Martin is "insulted" by the Nets offering him 65-70 mil which is already almost twice what hes worth. if thats an insult well I wish I could be insulted like that every day of the week. Ive heard rumors of jsut about EVERY team trying to clear room for a run at KG. hes going to stay in minnesota or go to a team thats better than minnesota. not a team in the east
this is "the rumor mill" and i find this to be not that reliable a source... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A Nets source told The News that Martin is offended by the Nets' offer of an estimated $65 million to $70 million over six years, which is well short of the $85 million to $90 million the 2000 No.1 overall pick is seeking. </div> a "nets source"?? reports from a nets source said that jason kidd demanded scott be fired for him to resign, and those rumours were quickly cleared up...kmart is arrogant, but come on, thats just absurd. if its true that he actually said that, hed quickly become one of my least fav players...thats absolute garbage! id like to hear kmarts side of the story, things often get misconstrued in the media, its the old game of one person tells one person a story, and as it gets told a dozen times it changes with every mouth that tells it. maybe it is true, but lets not forget, this is "the rumor mill"
Its not just the new york daily news. espn is reporting it to. so is NBA.com. There talk already of a trade of KMart for Sheed. this is legit. youre right it is garbage but it is it really that big of a surprise from someone who comes off as arrogant as kenyon martin? new jersey was VERY generous to offer him 65-70 million dollars. its very foolish of kmart to think he can get MORE from them. It will be quite a shock for him if he goes to the free agent market to find that no one else is willing to give him more than that either
