When I was farming with my family in Iowa, there were restrictions for a 14 year old with an agricultural license...only rural roads or two lane paved roads that accessed fields...a 14 year old was not allowed to drive farm equipment within the city limits...I'm sure it varies from state to state and I was 14 in the mid 60s..those laws might not be the same anymore...we never needed weapons to go to town and I knew of no one in my county who would think of carrying a weapon to town ...to transport a hunting weapon there were restrictions...one was they must be unloaded.

Opinions one can not stand by are usually of feeling, not logical deductions based on observable facts and logical thinking.
Feelings are often used to justify ignoring current law, including the Constitution. Serious proposals to change laws are more often the result of study and serious logical deductions. Just offering you, old friend, my observation.

When my schizophrenic brother was at the peak of his illness and not yet on medications, our family went through hell trying to keep him from buying a handgun. He was bound and determined and there was no law at that time preventing it.

I stand by my opinion...after the fact they are just opinions that engage the topic...and it's logical to me to question if current laws are working...but I respect your right to your opinion that you are happy with current laws...that's fair

I often went to school with my rifle in the car. Many times went hunting directly from school. Sometimes the result was dinner.
Other times it was straight to work and then later hunting before cooking the dinner. Always the short nose 32 was home where it might be needed quickly. I suspect your Dad took care of that for you.

I would love to see solid proposals to change current law, that are the result of sound logical thinking. Changes that do not strip
people of their right to protect themselves or make it unreasonable expensive and thereby denying them the tools of protection with force when required.

Cogent well thought out proposals, not just feelings.

BS. We all know cars weren't generally available until the early 1900's.

I used to have a gun rack in my 56 Chevy pick up. You could drive around with a rifle as long as it was showing.

True. But most people took enough math to get by.

Didn't need a gun rack that year, and the Truck would have been way too costly. I began my active duty Navy time that year.

I usually try to make it a practice of studying people enough to determine their character type. This can then be use to predict their responses and takes on various positions. Not much sense in expecting the results of debate to change any opinions. Sometimes you can change logical deductions, but even then that more often is because a fact error was discovered or deductions was made in error. It very uncommon for a feeling to change from the result of another persons logical reasoning. The decision making process is not based on the same data so discussing it further is usually fruitless. But if common ground can be found then perhaps the weight of feels can change.

This country has had a history of finding simple answers to complex problems, prohibition being a perfect example.

A classic example of making a law from a feeling.

Haven't seen you change any of your feelings here, so I expect you are right.

To do this objectively requires not making assumptions or projections subjectively....I too study character and have views about character types ...I do not tell them they are not worth talking with because they disagree with my views unless they are insulting however. Respect is usually countered with respect...those I have no respect for, I'll own my subjectivity about..respect is also earned from one's value systems

Prohibition? Uh, that was in the 1920's, lol. At least use a current example that might pertain to todays world.

Well river, I do not intend to show you disrespect unless you ask for it. Like I said, I like you.
But you do know of times you beg it on. I have been known to respond, in like kind of course. Doesn't mean, I don't like you.

....lmfao ...that only shows what guns are "ALLOWED" for hunting...not what weapons are actually USED in hunting. And sorry but I am a lifetime member of the NRA and have been a registered and licensed hunter in the state of Georgia for nearly 40 years and NO ONE I have ever known has ever used a handgun for hunting.

...you could probably add rocks and rubber band guns and Star Trek Phasers to the list. Can you use a handgun for dove/duck hunting? Yes, but a shotgun is recommended....can you use a 44 magnum pistol for deer/elk hunting?...yes, but a rifle is recommended.
...please don't try to carry on a convo about something that you obviously know very little if anything about...and you call "BS" on me?...puhlease.

...that myopic copy and paste disorder you possess has once again exposed you.
