I think he was a big part of the decision making process long before Paxson threw his punch at Vinnie.
I think so. If we're using a strict interpretation of the Gar Forman era (ie, no Eddy Curry DNA stuff or Tyrus over LMA). By all accounts Doug was the Bulls' guy, and he's completely whiffed so far. I suppose there's some comfort you can take in this injury, since it means his bad play might not be due to his lack of ability.
A couple of interesting bits from Forman's Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gar_Forman and Part of the team brought in to chase away the guys who gave us 6 championships (Tim Floyd, et al).
No doubt Gar has been a big part of the team's decision-making process for a while. I don't think he was anointed as GM at the drop of a hat. But if you mark the finish line as when he was officially named GM (the same offseason the Bulls hired Thibs), then I think this counts as the biggest gaffe. I think the runner-up would be the failure to re-sign Asik, but that was primarily a financial decision and not a basketball decision. For a move that had no influence by the ownership's financial priors, the McDermott move has been the biggest dud.
The bulls only make basketball decisions. So I'm told. We can quibble over whether Gar was making all the trades and draft pick decisions before being GM or not. I think he was
