I think things would run much better if no one was edited or deleted, but after one warning, a person personally attacking another poster should be suspended for a week or whatever. That fixes the problem really quickly. An edit or delte is like a time out. sooner or later you just need to spank someone and they will stop.

YES! By attacking the post you encourage the person defend their view/post/opinion. By insulting the person all that leads to is the person insulting you back. And then you insult them back... and then they insult you back... you two are really pissed off and the rest of us have to read post after post of bullshit.

hahahaahaaahaha I love a challenge..so if I can get away with this formula, I feel quite confident that the person it would be directed towards would fully understand my intent....or may have already..

I'm also curious what of mine got edited. I don't go back and reread my posts.

In the spirit of open discussion...

When you see "edited by moderator's name" at the bottom of a post, it smacks to me of a kind of censorship where we change peoples' writing.

That said, I personally read virtually every thread and post on the site, aside from truebluefan's news updates. I don't ever recall you or any other mod deliberately abusing the extra mod functions to penalize a particular poster. I can see that if you're the one being edited that you feel picked on, and if someone else's gets missed, it may seem unfair. Oh well.

I once was driving down the street in Palo Alto at the same speed as the other cars. Cop pulls me over for speeding (40 in a 35). I said, "look at all those other cars, they were speeding too!" and the cop said, "I pulled YOU over." She clearly had no clue who any of us drivers were. It wasn't picking on anyone, just that I had a red car :)

And for the record, I ask to be treated like any member of the site. Mods are free to edit my posts, delete my posts, whatever. I have 38,500+ of them. I won't miss a few here and there.

    :-)

It's quite possible it was intended, but was meant in jest.

I tell Mags to "F off" all the time. That guy is an ass-clown, and it's not an attack, because even he admits it's truth. That's why I like Mags.

That's fine if you want to push things but why? This forum is fun as hell when we're debating and arguing about our opinions and points of view. But the insults are just a conversation killer and ultimately ends with someone upset and pissed off.

SPD, My Dog..I have been on good behavior ever seance the other day when you edited me, and I made a point of concession. Not to worry, I am just teasing you while you are so hormonal and venerable..

I don't think "venerable" has EVER been used to describe SlyPokerDog before...

LOL! You've been great. I have no problems with any of you. That was my original point in all of this. If I see an insult I will edit it. It's never personal.

I think you meant "vulnerable". The word you used means "accorded a great deal of respect, esp. because of age, wisdom, or character"--which is what made it so funny. :)
