Yup. If a divorce is the way to go, it's better to do it now for all parties involved.

I think this has 2 realistic endings -- I will say I think the 2nd option is the most likely but who knows after the Blazers lied to him but again that is the picture that is easy to believe when the truth might not be as black and white.

    1) He tells the Blazers he wants out now and we get a trade in the next 2 to 3 weeks prolly to Net's or Heat

    2) The Blazers and Dame agree to see how this plays out for the rest of the summer in terms of free agency , trades etc and revisit the situation. Then at the deadline when the offers also might get better after things shake out more then if he wants out maybe more trade partners and better offers.

I hear you. As a practical matter, of course we need to get Dame to buy in to whatever the team wants to do (even if it's "nothing").

On paper, though, I don't think having the best player on the team telling the GM to "try harder or else" is helpful.

you're been saying that for weeks.

I'm curious though, if Dame comes out and says he wants to stay in Portland, which is still possible, are you going to call him a liar? Or will you allow that he might have changed his mind?

Even if that 7/9 date is correct the teams could come to an agreement that is expected to be finalized on 7/9. It would be reported as agree to in principle with the expectation it is finalized on x date. The Kevin Love for Wiggins swap had this happen where it was basically reported in the media as done but they had to wait the 30 days for the rookie contract restriction to be lifted and get finalized.

The second scenario concerns me because I'm going to be annoyed if we dump some assets to try to make Dame happy and then at the end of the summer he decides, "nah I'm out."

sean highkin thinks hes smarter than he is

motherfucker really believes having dame lillard is better than embracing the full rebuild while you have two potential all-stars on the roster + opportunity to add more talent with high picks

full rebuild means youre aiming to win the chip in the future, keeping dame lillard means youre happy being in a purgatory (which is not bad, being a playoff team is good, not everyone can contend and you could be charlotte hornets, minnesota timberwolves or sacramento kings from the past and usually you would keep dame lillard, but not now, god has blessed us with scoot & sharpe, which means were already in a great position for a rebuild)

Agreed. I've grown weary of hearing his constant waffling. Pick a lane. I don't think he realizes how much he's shitting on his Portland fans these past few summers.

He isn't a liar. He said they'd have a separate conversation. It seems like that's what is happening. Where did I say in any of those weeks of posts that he would definitely demand a trade? I said that he would, probably for the first time, explore the idea of leaving Portland. That appears to be the case but I guess we'll see.

I'd tend to think Lillard and the Blazers either want to commit to all of next year or try to move on and each go to the next chapter. Dame and the team might both want to see what happens in free agency/trades for the next two weeks. But then I think the make a decision for all of next year. If Dame is going to change teams next season he'd rather have the summer to buy a house there and move kids, etc and not have this drag out.

Not saying it can't happen at the deadline, I just think all parties would like to either be happy and plan for him to stay at least a year or turn the page and move on. All of this uncertainty is stressful enough just for us fans - has to be 10x stressful for Dame and the team.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Dame would be that mercenary considering his 11 years of loyalty to Portland

besides that, I don't think there will be a lot of vagueness i the discussion today. I think Cronin will tell Dame what's he's trying to do, with what assets, and hos successful he thinks he'll be. Dame will go (or not go) from there

I guess I still don't know what Joe was supposed to do. Would Zach Lavine make Dame feel better? DDR?? Who else was an easy get? Bridges is not going anywhere. No evidence Zion was really on the block and would that make Dame happy? PG?? Would that do the trick? He has to be smart enough to realize there were no moves to bring a healthy mid-career all-star to POR. If that's the case then he should walk. I do think he is responsible for some of the mess. Why not demand, much as he is demanding now, CJ to be traded? Why not demand Ant or Nurk be dealt? Why the obsession with getting Grant, his friend, on the team? Did that really help? He has a role in this debacle too. Not blaming him but he has a part.

I agree. If Dame is moved it will be quick. I doubt they would let it drag on.

IF (and this is an IF) the best options were:

1.) Siakam without a guarantee of an extension.
2.) PG without a guarantee of an extenstion.
    3.) KAT

For #3 and Simons, let's assume either one of these trades placate Dame.

Would you have done it? Head says no but heart says yes. I think FO chose with their head and will live with the consequences. Curious what everyone else thinks.

And does he take any responsibility for hurting our leverage on any negotiations we engaged with on the third pick?
