I can't believe I'm missing an LMA recap...but you're right, that was a totally different situation from this.

Just after the trade deadline, after the team had traded off Hart and GP2 and waved the white flag, the Blazers (on Dame's 71pt night) were 29-31. That may not seem great (narrator: "It wasn't") but they were 3 games out of the 4th seed and 2 games behind Conference Finalist GSW and NBA Finalist Miami. I get the concepts that people think a .500 team is "purgatory", but both of those "contenders" showed in different ways that flawed teams can still go far.

There are definitely changes to be made with the defense, and Scoot et al. may not be franchise saviors Year One, but Dame and Goodwin aren't dumb. They got their bag, they have the chance to be almost immortal in Portland (have you seen a Clyde Drexler Day at Moda recently?), they can cement their status as the guys who don't chase rings and superteams, and can start working with the young guys to start building an identity.

I would think that the Warriors are around the 30th least likely team in the league that would want Nurk. Seems like a really bad fit for their style.

But would they rather let Draymond walk for nothing?

Maybe. They still have a high team salary. But my point is they would probably want someone else besides Nurk

May not be "nothing"...it's somewhere on the order of a $102M cash return on projections of 2023-24. Lacob may not care, but it's not nothing.

The blazers signed Dame to supermax extension last summer. The blazers know Dame is not getting any younger. The blazers know Dame wants to win.

Why extend a 32 year old star and not be in win now move?

If the blazers make a win now move or moves and they don't win (the championship) you cannot blame Dame.

You're both right... there's a financial component... but the window for Steph is damn near closed. Not sure if they can afford to lose Draymond for nothing. He's such a huge piece of their puzzle.

So, we’re going to follow The Secret and win a championship with positive thoughts? I admit, I got sucked into when it first came out….It didn’t work

In my view they're starting by addressing the defense...and negative thoughts definitely have never led to championships either...secret is health and luck. There's just the most parity in the league I can ever remember now. Nobody is guaranteed a chip...not Denver, not LA, not the Bucks etc...Dame is smart to dig in and lead by example. I know if the franchise traded away Dame, I'd be looking for another sport to follow. I like the loyalty, I like the journey. This season is going to be fun...the new guys are better than CJ Elleby or Keon Johnson

Hmmm...would that be Dame or Scoot? Sharpe is a good looking dude, maybe he turns out to be the savior

Is it pessimism if we’ve seen the outcome for the last several years, or is it realism at that point

I hear ya…I think we all have our reasons for watching. I happen to love the process, and that includes building up, tearing down and building up again. I enjoyed the past couple tank seasons, watching the young guys play hard, and grow. I love the underdog. For you, it sounds like you enjoy watching Damian. I have, and will continue, whether he’s here or elsewhere. I’ll be honest, I’m in it for entertainment, and don’t understand loyalty to a person I know nothing about, other than their public persona. But again, that’s just my perspective, and perspectives vary.
