<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">This is oooooooolllllllld news. We already have a thread on this in the nuggets forum. And as it has been said a couple times before in here, the medal is saifely stored in his moms house, leave him alone and let him ball.</div> First of all, it's not like Carmello Anthony reads these forums, so I'm sure he'll be balling just fine regaurdless of what we say in this thread. Second of all, even saying that you threw your Olympic medal in a lake is something stupid to say and is showing disrespect towards your country. Lastly, the whole problem with Carmello Anthony really transcends his comments about the medal. His image has become the typical NBA image, and while I'd like to believe that he's a class act, he's making it hard. Just because he's a charming kid with a smile doesn't mean that he is a saint. I don't understand how so many people think that just because he is young he can get away with the kind of things he does. When you're young, you make mistakes, but being caught with marijuana is more than a mistake. Showing the blatant disrespect that he has shown to USA basketball is more than a mistake, it's a flaw in his character. Also, every little dispute that he has ever had about playing time is a real reflection of his bad character. How can you possibly stick up for that kid?
This whole thing was blown out of propotion. He never threw his medal into the lake, the video was recorded during the summer, nothing illegal happened on the video. And when i say just let him ball, this already happened and now its being brought up again and he didnt do anything new. But people find the need to make a new thread on this and try to get more reactions out of people, for no reason than to make melolook worse.

This discussion has just been ongoing. You are right, nothing illegal did happen. But what kind of moron would go around saying things about the USA Olympic team that he played on? That's disrespect. This is not the only time that Carmelo Anthony has done something stupid either. How do you explain the weed? How do you explain the not being on time to practice? How do you explain refusing to play? Just accept the fact that he's not the class act you are trying to portray him as.
Weed? Wasn't his. Not going to practice? I don't even recall this happening? Refusing to go in the game? Can't defend him there, it was his fault and he realized this and apoligized.

Also when, did he not show up on time for practice. And please dont get me wrong, i know Melo has made some mistakes, and im not trying to portray him as a class act. I know that hes not the perfect child the NBA wants him to be, and im ok with that. I dont mind people saying hes a bad preson or whatnot, but please dont make it any worse than it needs to be.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">No check your facts. The video came out loong before friday</div> Facts checked. Maybe living in Denver freakin' Colorado you got the news a lot earlier than most people, but I just read about it in the papers on Thursday. How can you guys forget him being late to the Olympic team practice? He was benched the following game. As for the weed not being his, come on, you've got to be kidding me. Why the hell was he carrying weed in the first place? The kid has terrible character and terrible judgement. I really do not think he's even worth defending. You can come up with every possible excuse in the book for every one of his incidents, but as they pile up you're going to realize what kind of a person he is. Carmelo has had four little 'incidents' since he's come into the league. He's only a second year player. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">but please dont make it any worse than it needs to be.</div> This is a message board. Give me a link, then I'll believe you. For the weed thing, he let his friend borrow his backpack for the weekend, and when he gave it back, there was a little amount of marijuana still in the bag. The charges were dropped.

This isn't the first time this or somthing similar has happened. Him throwing away the bronze medal, the shirt with 9/11 Kerry should have gone all the way when he didn't vote. He's just hanging out with drug dealers that much

It's like your writing a test in school, but someone copies you and you don't know it. Your teacher see's, and give's you both a 0. For the shirt thing, how do you know he had time to vote? Player's are very busy. Having a chance to vote could take HOURS. Plus, he had a game the same night in LA and had to get ready for that too.
How much money does anybody want to bet the next media thing is going to be "I saw Carmelo pick his nose at McDonalds"

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dee still ballin:</div><div class="quote_post">How much money does anybody want to bet the next media thing is going to be "I saw Carmelo pick his nose at McDonalds"</div> Yeah everything that Melo does is scrutinised and interpreted into negative analyses... he wants to be a better person and it seems like you guys are giving him no chance.
Once again, Carmelo makes me lose more respect for him. He just plain out has a bad attitude. Out of the whole world, you got third place, and you are going to be a spoiled little brat and throw it away. A lot of teams would be so happy with the medal, and you go and do something dumb. I have always had a lack of respect for him, now he had no respect. He is a whiner, baby, and he is soft.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting theclown1:</div><div class="quote_post">Just another fool with alot cash and dont know what to do. He will end up somewhere in the gutter if he is not carefull.</div> Haters in the house. Talent = money.

So, what else do you want to hate on him for? I'm sure there's plenty of other things people can come up with.
We should all be smart enuff to realize that his aint the 60's and 70's. NBA players aren't role models anymore. So, realistically, criticizing what he does outside of the game is the same as lecturing some random guy off the streets. His character off the court has nothing to do with his balling skills.

They were currently getting wasted. So, there is a sore loser. He complained all summer about not getting any playing time in the Olympics, when other players were clearly playing better than him. He has drug charges filed against him. I don't care if they were his or not, he was involved. Now this. Good enough for you?

Yes he took himself out of a game and that was a terible descion and better yet a rookie descion, he knows what he did was stupid and that tarnished his name some. But we all know Carmelo is close to MJ, and MJ told him that he was not the first to do such a thing, even great players like Scottie Pippen have done stupid things like this, so its not that bad. The drug thing was not his fault, one of his friends borrowed his back pack without asking, when Melo retrieved his bag weed was already in the bag. For all we know his friend could have done this on purpose. The dvd thing is no big deal to me, yeah he is around some bad people but thats his descion, they are his people and just because they are "bad" thats not going to keep him away from them. Besides the dvd was all talk, nothing illegal happened so what the big deal about that?
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The drug thing was not his fault, one of his friends borrowed his back pack without asking, when Melo retrieved his bag weed was already in the bag. For all we know his friend could have done this on purpose.</div> Yes, his friends want to frame a multimillion dollar athlete that is probably their only source of money right now. I mean, honestly, do you think he's hanging around with 35 year old rich business men or 19 year old kids looking for some dough? Why the hell would they frame him? That's the craziest thing I've heard in a while. Also, you have to be pretty damn gullible to not believe that the weed was either his or that he fully understood that the weed was in there. That whole "my friend's backpack" excuse is the lamest thing I've ever heard. I wish I could get away with that. I'm just as convinced that the marijuana wasn't his as I'm convinced the child pornography wasn't Michael Jackson's. Also, did anyone ever come to think that maybe he's hanging around with the wrong crowd if his friends just have random stashes of weed lying around the house. I'm sure we all have had friends who have smoked pot, or even been pot smokers ourselves, but I've never had any friends like the friends of his that were on that videotape. Who the hell is looking over this kid? He's just out of High School for God's sake. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Yes he took himself out of a game and that was a terible descion and better yet a rookie descion, he knows what he did was stupid and that tarnished his name some. I don't care who else did it either. Just because one player has refused to go back into a game before, it doesn't mean that it's acceptable for everybody else to do the same. Also, what is the deal with everyone just kind of brushing this incident off. Everyone says "He apologized. He's sorry. He learned. He won't do it again." Well of course. What the hell did you expect him to say? "I'm not sorry, I didn't learn, and I'll do it again"? His response to the incident would have been anybody's response. When Dennis Rodman kicked the camera man between the legs, I'm sure his response was similar to that. Ron Artest's response was similar to that. However, does that make their actions any more acceptable? Of course not. The fact of the matter is that he still refused to go into the game, and you are foolish if you believe that another incident like this will not come up again in the future. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He complained all summer about not getting any playing time in the Olympics, when other players were clearly playing better than him.</div> Pretty messed up, eh? Before the Olympics, Carmelo Anthony was saying how he was very excited about the chance to represent his country and all of that b.s. these players feed you guys, but at the first signs of trouble he reverted to his old ways. When they were losing, we had to listen to every one of Carmelo Anthony's little complaints all during the Olympics, and then after he got the Bronze medal he disrespected the Olympics team by making jokes about how he threw it in the lake. That's the worst character I've ever seen. He's a summer soldier and a sunshine patriot alright. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">We should all be smart enuff to realize that his aint the 60's and 70's. However, in the long term his off the court actions could affect his on the court actions. It has happened to too many players for me to believe that it won't happen to him as well if this behavior continues. Just because our expectations are lowered for NBA players' behavior, it doesn't mean that we should take these incidents with a grain of salt either. Why should the standard be lowered so that the expectations for the average NBA player are a young out of control kid who have no maturity? Is that really what you are expecting these days out of the NBA? <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">So, what else do you want to hate on him for? I'm sure there's plenty of other things people can come up with.</div> If you don't like to talk about things like this, then don't come to a basketball forum, especially in the "Out of Bounds" section. This section has its title for a reason. I also don't appreciate the slang term "hater" being attatched to my name. Using that term is about as low as you can get in my book. I don't think Kobe Bryant is the best player in the NBA, so I am labled a hater. I think Carmelo Anthony has poor off the court behavior, poor character, and a poor attitude, so I am labled a hater. Do you people who throw that term around really not have a better vocabulary than the one you exercise on JustBBall? Why do you have to assume that just because normal people think it's poor behavior to get busted with marijuana and things like that, they are "haters"? I'm sick and tired of this elementary debate. There's no justifiable reason for any of his actions. All I hear when I read these posts are whiney excuses. It gets old fast.
