Hey just wanted to welcome all new members. This thread has been awesome. We've been getting like over 20 users in the forum at one time a couple times and the posts are great! Here's my two cents: I like Battier more than I like Unleavy Jr, but I don't know what this team's long term goal is and who the team is built around. They say the core group of players like Claxton, Pietrus, Murph, Jrich and unleavy. Now if I'm building around a core group of players like those I want those core players to D it up from the get go, or at least be consistent scorers that can outproduce the points they give up. Neither are overwhelming scorers and neither are great defenders. This makes me a little bit pessimistic about who we got right now as a starting lineup (thank goodness for depth). I feel we need as many players that can do a little of offense and defense and then try to balance it out because guys like Pietrus get pissed off that they work so hard to pressure the ballhandler and when the W's get the ball back, Jrich or Dunleavy or somebody else just hoists the ball up and misses for 4/14 shooting or some ridiculously low number. Everyone's got to work on D to get teammates to value a posession so they continue to keep up the effort and take better shots because they understand that its hard to get the ball back. Right now our starting 5 only has two real guys that play the style of defense that can force turnovers, missed shots and lead to fastbreaks and scoring runs. This is where I think we need to evaluate where the scoring is coming from and who is going to be out on the court to assist the go to guy in every way to make him better, especially on the defensive end (the most important aspect of teamwork and winning ball games). If Jrich is indeed the go to guy I think Dunleavy's gotta move. If Murphy is the go to guy I think Jrich has got to move. It's like the pieces don't fit at all because the core group of players's strengths aren't covering each other's weaknesses well enough. So long message short, I'd take Battier over Dunleavy if I'm going with Jrich. Good D, smarter than Jrich, and he's a better shooter IMO. (In reality they're the same or Dunleavy is better, but Battier's better at hitting the open shots) I dont' know how many blown Dunleavy 3's I've seen. I guess he finished strong the second half of the season so I can't complain too much. But the defense....
