You don't trade big for small or how the ol' adage goes. Devin Harris is a great player but I wouldn't even consider trading Aldridge for him.

    Heheh! Exactly.

If they draft Rubio, I hope he pulls a Sabonis and stays in Europe for another 10 years.

Harris is a better player right now. He had a superior PER last year and is, IMO, a superior defensive player. He gets to the line a ton and puts a lot of pressure on the defense on a consistent basis. He also plays a position of scarcity... there are simply more PFs at Aldridge's level than there are PGs at Harris's.

With this being said, I'm not sure that I trade LA for Harris. Aldridge is a couple of years younger and the "never trade big for small" maxim rings loudly in my head.

It's a tough call. If Portland could line up a plus starter at the power forward (David Lee, I guess, would be the minimum I'd want to replace Aldridge with), I could see the logic of trading Aldridge to get Harris... although I'm not sure that NJ would be interested.

rubio could be the whole steve francis thing all over again.

yeah, go ahead and pick a guy who's said he doesn't want to get drafted by you and see how that turns out.

Well if we want to get more technical, Harris had an RR of 3.9 while Aldridge had one of 7.2. Also as a perimeter player you can only do so much as a defender. And let's face it, Harris still wasn't stopping dribble penetration from guards like Parker, Rondo, Paul, or Deron Williams, but really who can? As a big man Aldridge can have a much bigger impact on defense.

    Fair enough. Point taken.

I guess I still have it stuck in my head what a "hard bargain" Rod Thorn supposedly drives.

I understood it to be more of a cost cutting move, to open up space for Lebron, at least I think I remember it being talked about like that.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Well, I'm sure Pritchard will explore this with New Jersey, if Harris is really available. I'm not sure a deal that is reasonable for both sides can be struck, but if Pritchard can get Harris without giving up any of Roy/Oden/Aldridge, it will be a masterful consolidation trade.

I'd give up all of Batum, Rudy and Bayless for Harris, though if there was any way to hold onto Batum (by adding other, non-Roy/Oden/Aldridge assets), that would be amazing.

I wouldn't trade LMA for Harris but I would like to have him. Harris is a lot better then Rubio and the Nets would be crazy to trade Harris for the #2 pick to get Rubio. I really don't believe this rumor or there is more to it then being reported.

Also Harris is not a better player then LMA right now. If the Nets are looking to trade Harris they would jump all over a trade of LMA for Harris IMO. If we really want to trade LMA which I wouldn't even think about we can get better then Harris for him.

Devin Harris had a big drop-off in his defensive production last year - I suspect all that pressure to carry the team offensively with VC had really taken a big toll on his defensive production. His defensive win-score last year was the worst he had since his first 2 years in the league.

Just for the record - LMA's defensive win-score last year was almost twice as high as Harris's - no way you trade LMA for Harris. It would be a mistake of epic proportions.

Other than that - it would be great to have him - but my opinion (based on their College production) is that JB will be a slightly better offensive weapon with almost as good a defense as DH when all is said and done...

BTW - DH is not noticeably better than LMA on offense as well - they had the exact same offensive win-score last year - and Portland's offense was not built around LMA's game to the tune NJN built their offense around Harris.

Ha! Good one. The same organization that bent over, grabbed their ankles and handed the Lakers a championship is talking tough.

Yeah, right. Pau cried like a baby. So, they rewarded him by giving him away to a contender.

Now, they are threatening to "get tough" with Rubio. What are they going to do - draft him and give him to the Cavs or Lakers for a futurer 2nd round pick. Ooohhh, I bet Ricky is shaking in his shoes over this new found toughness in Memphis.

That is true. Why would Ricky not want to go to Memphis when it is a clear path to a contender in two years? He should look at the big picture. After all, I am sure Memphis could swing a deal to bring in even more valuable cap space. Maybe involving Adam Morrison and Josh Powell.

Especially when he won't be a pariah like Francis and can just say "Sorry guys, I couldn't get out from under my 8M buyout and physically can't afford to come over to MEM. Really. I wish I could. Really."

I wouldn't trade LMA for Harris. But I'd trade ANYONE outside of Roy, Aldridge and Oden.

Bayless, Rudy, Przybilla, Outlaw/Webster, #24, cash, future 1st, and the mid-late 1st rounder we get with our TE for Harris and a contract?

I find it ironic that one of the supposed reasons Rubio doesn't want to go to Memphis is the way they treated Pau. Evidently, in Spain, giving someone a max contract and then, when that's not enough, handing them over to a championship contender, is consider disrespectful, abusive and to be avoided at all costs.

Oh well, I hate Memphis. So, I'm glad Rubio is shunning them, whatever the reasons.

Hmm, how'd you get that? In that scenerio I traded 4 players for 2 players from NJ. Our team needs some consolidating anyway.

Gives us one of the best starting 5's in the league... leaves us with...

Harris, Roy, Batum, Aldridge, Oden... with a bench of Blake and Outlaw/Webster... and of course Sergio and the contract we get back. From there we can use future 1sts and our 2nds to draft some decent backups and sign a vet or 2 (which would help us). You only go 8 deep in the playoffs anyway, normally.

For our bench, if we traded Outlaw over Webster in my initial trade, we could have a bench of Blake and Webster, draft Blair, and sign a center... gives us a really nice 9 man rotation.

Obviously a dream scenerio, but I was just thinking of a package that would get close to getting us Harris.

Speculating is fun, off-season is long.

Well, if NJ wants the No. 2 pick.. let's do a three-way trade with us, NJ and Memphis. Give Memphis a bunch of our young guys that would somehow net us Harris. Do it, KP, do it, do it, do it til you're satisfied!!
