I'm trying to find out if there was a snag in terms of what Portland was offering or if it was just leverage for the Nukic deal.

Leverage to squeeze that first round pick out of them is my guess.

    Who's 1st? Philadelphia's? Were not getting a top 5 pick for Crabbe.

They have a 2019 pick from sacramento. If they dont want to do a first i would take a couple of their multiple 2nd rounders they have

That pick is unprotected. I don't think they want to give that up.

How would Quarterman fill any void left by Paul? The only void he'd fill is the one behind the bench.

LA isn't looking to blow it up though.

If Chicago wants to get rid of Butler why would they go older with Paul?

My trades arent as far fetched as this though! Lol.

I know that. If they dont want to they have a million 2nd rounders. They also have a 1st from okc that is decently protected in 2020.

Considering the cash we gave them though, maybe it was at least partly buying the pick.

Here is a theory that could only be proposed by someone like me who is obsessed with getting Jimmy Butler. And it is interesting that Chicago was listed as one of the few teams interested in Okafor. As you may or may not recall, I proposed a three way with Chicago; by trading Crabbe's big contract to Philadelphia and sending Okafor to Chicago, this enabled Chicago to completely blow it up, offloading Wade and Rondo contracts to Portland along with Butler. I believe this is the one area in which we had an advantage over Boston.
However, if Chicago suddenly had cold feet, that would explain why Portland didn't trade for Okafor. It could be that Chicago wants to wait to the end of the season to see if Portand lucks into a top 5 pick. (however, would this mean Portland would lose Ezeli's expiring, making the trade not possible?)

Interesting. It wouldn't have to include Wade/Rondo - simply swapping Crabbe/Okafor/Butler works (with all three picks going to CHI):

If CHI wanted to dump Rondo, we could include Aminu to make it work - I believe Wade has a player-option, so he's basically an expiring contract:

I think if Chicago really wants to blow it up, and they should, my many times previously posted trade is the best. It clears two burdensome contracts, gives them back only players 22 or younger and draft picks. If we actually did get a top five pick, this would almost be too much, but it would beat the pants off anything Boston can do. Ed Davis they can easily trade for at least a 2nd round pick.

I think you are right about Wade Contract; we could take Lopez from them instead but I think they can trade that (in fact are trying to) so my big trade really isn't necessary.

I would probably go for this; I don't want to trade Aminu if we are going to contend, and I don't think he has much value to them.http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=gsm2bqe

In fact don't need to include Napier. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=jxlnuj7

And if there is no advantage to them getting rid of Wade, then it will be easier to do the deal at the end of the season, without the Ezeli contract, Davis can be included instead.

I still don't understand why Chicago would trade Butler?

Also does Chicago want to take a chance on Wade exercising that 23 million contract? Can a guy with his declining health and production get more?
