Why are you undoing the Randolph deal in your "building a juggernaut" retrospective? Randolph got us Frye, and Frye makes offenses unstoppable.

Re: Jon Barry: Channing Frye "makes the Phoenix Suns unguardable"

You know it's easy to get on a bandwagon when a team is playing well. But lets look at reality here. The Phoenix Suns have bulldozed two of the lowest seeded teams in the conference playoffs. The western conference is not as good this year, as it has been in past years. The only reason the Suns can do what they are currently doing, is because teams have not learned how to make them pay for switching Nash of on defense. The Spurs had the same problem that the Blazers did, but to an even more extensive amount. They lack outside shooting. When you lack outside shooting, PHX can play that zone and double off guys all day long.

When Phoenix played San Antonio, they just made it so all the scoring was centered through Jefferson. Any time you have got it to where Jefferson is the guy you are depended on to score to get your team over the top you are in trouble. They picked their poison and said their poison will be RJ from 18 feet out, we will give him that. He shot like hell, and gave PHX exactly what they wanted.

When PHX played Portland what did they do? They took away Aldridge and Miller and let our poor perimeter shooters do the rest. It didn't help that we didn't have a scorer capable of taking on a double team.

    Commonalities:

    1. Both San Antonio an Portlands point guards are not effective perimeter shooters. That allows them to switch Grant Hill over and sag off them, because they can't hit the jumper to make him pay.

    2. Both teams have problems perimeter shooting, so Phoenix can zone up a lot and cover for Nash.

    Not Common:

    1. In every game San Antonio looked like they ran out of gas in the second half. They looked old.
    2. Mental Mistakes. George Hill had a really tough series.
    3. The insane quarter by Dragic. There is not much you can do about that.

In order to beat Phoenix, you have to beat them in the paint. You have to attack Amare who is foul prone, and you have to attack guys like Frye who will pick up fouls and get frustrated from that aspect of the game. Neither Portland or San Antonio had that mindset. I think all the teams with that mindset, are currently playing in the quarterfinals of the other side of the western conference bracket.

    hasoos-

There are holes in your argument:

    1) Andre Miller and Jerryd Bayless shot 43% and 40% from the three point line respectively in the series. Outside shooting from our point guards was not a problem.

    2) Richard Jefferson only shot 8 shots per game in the Suns-Spurs series.

Re: Jon Barry: Channing Frye "makes the Phoenix Suns unguardable"

That is untrue. Because you know as well as I do that Miller only took 7 3's for the whole series. That is about one per game. Bayless averaged about 2 attempts per game. Roy was 2 of 12. Then if you consider that Rudy maybe only made 2 attempts during "meaningful" time (most of his makes were in garbage time), that is not really outside shooting. In order to stop a borderline zone defense, you have to make them pay. That is not making them pay. A team with a good outside shooter will get a player 6 to 7 makes in a single game, let alone a whole playoff series.

Haven't you been a Suns naysayer all season? I think you have to give them the benefit of the doubt until someone slows them down in the playoffs.

1-8 shooting and 1 rebound tonight.

How could we have been so dumb to give that up?!?

I think I understand now. If someone that we let go has one solid game in the playoffs, they are good. If they have a bad game, it's a long series.

Yes, him and many other players in the NBA. Think Shawn Marion misses Steve Nash? How about Boris Diaw? I bet Raja Bell misses him just a little too. Hell I know D'Antoni misses him. Most of those guys owe most of their paycheck to him.
