Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed? lol no.. like And How from little Rascal's as in "I agree"
Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed? I would like to get Hinrich, but not if the cost is aiding a division rival, giving up our cap space, and two quality assets. Besides if we can get Boozer, our sights should be much higher than Hinrich, IMO. I didn't word that right. They're not getting better. They're getting off better than they would if we didn't help them.
Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed? But Deng (if healthy) is the superior player to Battier. My idea would be along the lines of: Portland gets: Deng, Hinrich ($19.9 mil) Utah gets: Outlaw, Blake ($7.6mil) Chicago gets: Boozer, Webster (16.6mil) Switch Outlaw and Webster's final destinations if needed.
Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed? YES. That's a high-risk/high-reward scenario I would love to get behind if Wallace isn't available.
Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed? so much for the specific deal: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4314637 "That team, according to ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher, was the Chicago Bulls, who would have sent Tim Thomas to the Mavericks."' So that exact deal from HOWIE may not fly.
Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed? Ty Thomas seems like a cancer waiting to happen. Talk about someone not wanting to be a backup. I really am not sold on this trade. I'd rather just sign Millsap and work from there.
As I said yesterday, if Portland can essentially facilitate moving Boozer to another team just by use of cap space, I think they should set their sights higher than Hinrich. I like Hinrich, but Boozer is a higher-caliber player and could legitimately bring back a player like Gerald Wallace or be the centerpiece of a deal for a point guard like Devin Harris.
I don't suppose we could do: Por: sends Blake , salary cap/cash receives Harris NJ: Sends Harris receives Boozer Blake Utah: Sends Boozer receives cash/cap space I tried this in the trade machine, but i couldn't find a way to send cash
Why would NJ give up Harris for Boozer when they can just wait a year and sign him with their ridiculous amount of capspace in 2010?
I agree but what if Harris is simply not available for Boozer? I could see the Bobcats going for it, but not NJ. For Hinrich alone I'd probably pass. Hinrich+Thomas would address two needs at once, as would Hinrich+Deng. And I see PG as definitely more of a need than SF.
What do you mean? Both threads were about the exact same rumour...a three-way deal with Chicago and Utah that nets Portland Hinrich.
plus get a good draft pick in the mean time. I agree there. unless they are trying to shed even more salary for some reason.
By centerpiece, I didn't mean Boozer alone. Like, Boozer from Utah and Portland chips in Rudy and Bayless. New Jersey ends up with Boozer and a cheap, young and talented backcourt. As to another poster's question about why wouldn't Jersey wait and sign Boozer themselves next off-season: this provides New Jersey certainty. History shows that the chances of landing a top-tier free agent on the market are very small. Waiting to try to do it as a free agent signing would mean having a very small chance to get him. This trade would ensure they get him, plus they get two young guards. I'd love to get Hinrich and Deng. Big financial risk on Deng, but not much risk in terms of team-building as the team will soon soar way over the cap, Deng or no Deng. And if Deng returns to his past form, it's a big win.
Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed? So would I, but I'd also prefer a starting PG who can guard someone. If we could somehow land Hinrich and still have enough cap space left to sign Brandon Bass, I'd be cool with that. I'm not a big Thomas fan (don't like stupid players in general), but he does bring energy and defense. He may play the same role as Travis, but he plays a totally different style - that was my point. He's not a Travis Outlaw clone - totally different skill set. BTW, is there some way we can sacfrice our cap space by sending a TPE to Utah in this proposed UT-POR-CHI trade, get over the cap and then still use our MLE. I know you can't use your cap space to sign someone and then use the MLE (or bi-annual exception). You must renounce your exceptions to use cap space to sign someone. However, supposedly, thanks to the 4-team trade that sent Marion to Dallas, Toronto was able to land Hedo (sign and trade) AND preserve their MLE by sending a trade exception to Orlando. If Pritchard/Penn can figure out something similar, we could end up getting an upgrade at starting PG and still have the full MLE left to use on a back-up 4. BNM
Devin Harris=Kevin Bacon in this forum. No matter what the scenario, he is connected in someway and will be coming to Portland. It is pretty funny.
If Tyrus would be OK being a backup and not cause any problems, this move would be great. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. Tyrus = Birdman + rebounding - 8 years in age.
Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed? One, as someone else pointed out, you're going to have to try harder when making a snide remark. And, two, it doesn't make me smart; it was simply a matter of typing what someone else told me.
