Right, because the offseason is now over and the Blazers can't make any moves.

Not sure I buy the paper thin part at all - Thomas and Oberto are easily replaced, and they may get Bowen back.

The Spurs become easier to beat IMO.
    No depth whatsoever
The front line is paper thin
    Bye Bye Championship Defense
Jefferson has the "big time" name, but he really isn't any better than a guy like Ariza or Outlaw
They didn't address any of their needs

I still like LA, PDX, Houston over them although they did prolly surpass Denver, b/c Den has no scoring bigs to exploit their front line.

Oh no, Portland can absolutely do something about it. I said they just got better, which I believe is true. It doesn't mean Portland can't as well later.

    1. They may be able to just pick-up some of the guys from the trade after/if they're renounced.

    2. Their front line wasn't that great last year anyway. I don't think the guys traded will be that difficult to replace, that is if they don't get signed by the Spurs.

    3. The difference between Jefferson and Outlaw is you can count on Jefferson. He's consistent. You don't know what you're going to get with Outlaw.

Ha ha ha ha that is hilarious. First of all, RJ is a good defender. Bruce Bowen hasn't been at his highest level for several years now. This will be an upgrade for them from last year to this year.

Don't be surprised if Thomas comes right back to them. He has been shipped off of San Antonio multiple times already and it is common practice for them to go get him back after he is released.

I love how you put Ariza and Outlaw in the same sentence. Like they are the same level of player or something. Let me see, one plays offense and tough D, and one plays good offense against select matchups. Sure sounds equal to me!:devilwink:

You really need to quit doubting Popovich. He gets more out of players than most other coaches in the league, minus Phil Jackson. He will make RJ a better team player and better defender than he has ever been in his career.

I don't buy their 'front line is paper thin' argument... it's not like they traded away the Admiral and Hakeem from their front line. They traded away two scrubs. And the Spurs weren't that deep anyway last year.

They did what they needed to do to get a little younger, and get more talent for no cost.

The Spurs just got a dynamic scorer and solid defender. I think this good insurance for them if Manu goes down and they don't have to rely on Roger Mason for big chunks of points.

If Duncan can keep his knees together, and that's a big if, the Spurs just blew by us by in talent for the moment. I think this is the move that kicks KP in the a$$ to get us our veteran in trade.

DING DING DING! You are not going to beat LA, PDX, or HOU with that shitty ass front court. They did not go after their weakness. W/ Manu coming back, they have plenty of scoring. Rjeff doesn't really help them that much. They would have been better served going after Kaman or Camby.

    Wow.

    So wrong.

    So, so wrong.

Just for starters, Jefferson hasn't played hard defense in years.

Good deal for both teams. Spurs improve their chances to win now and Bucks save some money to help build for the future.

Re: Spurs nets trade Jefferson to spurs

That was Tony Parker's second year in the league.

The last time a rookie starting point guard was on a title team was the 1979-1980 Lakers with Magic at the helm. That team had Kareem, Jamal Wilks and Norm Nixon on it, amongst others.

Rubio might be good. Parker is very good. Neither is one quarter the player Magic was in his prime.

It does seem like this is another deal like the Memphis one with Gasol.

    PG: Parker
    SG: Ginobli
    SF: Jefferson
    PF: Gooden
    C: Duncan

If healthy, that's a team that can make a lot of noise next year.

Jefferson isn't the player Gasol is, but it's similar.

They keep wasting lottery picks too. Yi and Joe Alexander the last two years? Awful.

The 2007 draft was a pretty terrible one outside of the top 5.

Re: Spurs nets trade Jefferson to spurs

I'm not convinced this makes San Antonio markedly better. Does Ginobli start or Jefferson start? If both of them start, who gets the shots between Parker, Ginobli, Jefferson and Duncan? And if both of them start, where's their punch off of the bench? I suppose Roger Mason Jr. and George Hill, but that's putting a lot on their shoulders.

Bowen served a great role for that team, always guarding the other team's playmaker on defense and keeping the floor spread so Duncan, Ginobli and Parker could operate in the interior on offense.

Not to mention they traded away their front line depth. Better hope Timmy holds up.

I guess the Spurs had to get more athletic, but I don't know that they jump us with this move.

I would not be surprised to see Bowen resign with the supers for the smaller exception, and Oberto with the MLE (if they'r released).

I think we should look at Oberto as a backup PF option.

Yeah.. expect the Spurs to re-sign Bowen and Oberto. So essentially it's Jefferson for Kurt Thomas. Kind of a no brainer on their part.
