Games behind is only relevant when both teams have played an equal number of games. When they haven't, winning percentage shows which team has the superior record. Having an extra win and an extra loss isn't a good thing...that's a .500 record over the extra two games played. .500 is worse than either team's winning percentage. Even if you want to be "technical" about how the NBA records it, winning percentage breaks "games behind" ties. So in all standings, the Blazers are placed ahead of the Nuggets. It's cool to be contrary to combat "homerism," but to do it to combat logic or facts doesn't make sense.
http://www.nba.com/standings/team_record_comparison/conferenceNew_Std_Cnf.html Portland in 6th. Denver in 7th. Checkmate.
Re: Merged: Who do we root for? my first concern is getting in. so root for who ever is playing PHX for now. once we are in, i'll worry about seeding.
Off the topic of the Western Conference: The Charlotte Bobcats? They've won six in a row and are sitting one game out of the eighth seed in the East.
Re: Who to root for tonight? Speaking of merging, is this related to the playoff race topic enough to merge them? I'd say yes myself.
Trading Richardson for Bell and Diaw has improved them significantly. I think they'll make the playoffs.
Re: OT: Hornets Lost Tonight Actually, they are first in the west: http://www.nba.com/standings/team_record_comparison/conferenceNew_Std_Cnf.html
Re: OT: Hornets Lost Tonight And, one of Houston/Denver is guaranteed to lose. If the Blazers can win tonight, they can gain ground on two of the teams they are battling against for play-off seeding. BNM
Tied in the standings with Utah for the division (though they have the tie-breaker) and only 1 game out of the 3 seed and 2.5 games out of the 2 seed. Not bad.
What happened to all those posters who thought we would not be in the playoffs when the Suns went 6-2 over an 8 game span. They did not look at the competition during that little streak. We are in, magic number of 14 or 15 now?
Re: Merged: Who do we root for? How funny about the Dallas Phoenix game tonight. I am pulling for Dallas tonight to keep Phoenix out. Then tomorrow I am of coarse rooting against them.
Re: Who to root for tonight? No. This is not about the playoffs. This is a night by night situational thing. As for tonight, Phoenix and Indy (Granger makes his return!)
