Does it matter that Portland has finished the much more difficult portion of their schedule and is one of the healthier teams in the league, or is that too much information? btw... Greg isn't doing too badly tonight STOMP
I'm just glad that we're able to talk about this right now. Wednesday's game is going to be tough against the Sixers. I hope we go in there and show 'em what's up. We need these pushover teams to actually be pushovers.
Go Hawks, Rockets and Mavericks! The Rockets and Mavericks losing would also help us, but I'd rather the Lakers and Nuggets lose. Either way, go Hawks!
Re: Playoff Race Since nobody else updated this last night, I will this morning (I feel so special!) 1. LA Lakers | 30-6 (.833) | GB -- 0 2. San Antonio | 24-12 (.667) | GB -- 6 3. Denver | 25-13 (.658) | GB -- 6 4. New Orleans | 22-12 (.647) | GB -- 7 5. Portland | 23-14 (.622) | GB -- 7½ 6. Phoenix | 21-13 (.618) | GB -- 8 7. Houston | 24-15 (.615) | GB -- 7½ 8. Utah | 23-15 (.605) | GB -- 8 9. Dallas | 22-15 (.695) | GB -- 8½ -- Western Conference Standings on Tuesday Morning (1/13/09) -- Nice to see us hop up two spots in the standings after just a win and a Rockets loss. Watch out Hornets; we're passing you next!
Woohoo! Thanks PtldPlatypus! You actually woke up before me! Anyway, we are #5!!!!! Hornets lost; Blazers and Jazz won.
Portland has a chance here to be 10 games over .500 for the first time since 2002-03, the last time they won 50 games and made the playoffs. They were 25-15 when they first hit that mark that year.
I created a cool little multicolored graph, then discovered it can't be copied/pasted onto the board and the file is too big to upload. Sigh.
Some pretty good games to look forward to tonight: Lakers @ Houston - As much as I want LA to lose, it'd be more beneficial for us to see the Rockets continue to slide. Dallas @ Denver - Win-win situation in this game. Atlanta @ Phoenix - Go HAWKS!
We need Denver to lose more than Dallas. Winning our division will be huge for us in the postseason. I just don't see how we win a 1st round series unless we have home court advantage.
First step for me is just getting into the playoffs, and then worry about if we can win. Either way, Dallas is going to be a threat to us at the end for a playoff spot, and yeah.. Denver of course is in our division. If Denver loses, we'd have the same amount of losses as them. That'd be HUGE since they were sitting with a nice cushion just a few weeks ago.
We are screwed since Denver is 3-0 against Dallas at this point unless Utah can do some damage. So far Portland isn't doing so well against teams in its NW division. Utah has already beaten Denver once so far 1-0 as they meet up later in the season. Portland is down 2-0 vs Utah so far at their place but hopefully we can make it 2-0 at home so we have the series split. The real test is Portland beating Denver on their own court and then us holding it in the series meeting. That would be 3-1 for the series vs Denver.
Lakers, Nuggets and Suns win; while the Mavericks and Rockets lose. 1. LA Lakers | 31-6 (.833) | GB -- 0 2. Denver | 26-13 (.658) | GB -- 6 3. San Antonio | 24-12 (.667) | GB -- 6½ 4. New Orleans | 22-12 (.647) | GB -- 7½ 5. Phoenix | 22-13 (.618) | GB -- 8 6. Portland | 23-14 (.622) | GB -- 8 7. Utah | 23-15 (.605) | GB -- 8½ 8. Houston | 24-16 (.615) | GB -- 8½ 9. Dallas | 22-16 (.695) | GB -- 9½ -- Western Conference Standings on Wednesday Morning (1/14/09) --
Big games today: Utah at Oklahoma City - Let's go OKC, show that your worth being a franchise New Orleans at Dallas - I'd like to see Dallas continue to be pushed down the standings Lakers at Spurs - If Lakers win and we win, it'd put us just 1/2 game behind the Spurs.
How about that Kevin Durant? -And before you all jump me, know that I'm not advocating that we should have drafted Durant. I think Durant would look a lot worse in a Blazer uniform, especially last season. A few bad shots, and Nate would have yanked his leash so hard, Durant would have choked. And we'd be complaining because Outlaw would be stealing his minutes.
