Watch him some time, he can't dribble into traffic and absolutely can't go left, that's a huge problem for a player in creating his own shot (Bayless suffers from the right hand dominance issue some himself).

Rudy is a catch and shoot shooting guard and that is what he should stick to until and unless he can improve his ballhandling in the off-season.

The stats tell a different story, at least in terms of the forward position sorted by PER

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/petrodr01/gamelog/1990/

Only 24 games of below 40% shooting out of 77 games in his rookie year ... that's pretty damn consistent if you ask me.

Rudy on the other hand had 35 last year out of 78

Stats don't tell this story. What player if removed from the team has a major impact on wins and losses? Roy. Which players are all replaceable and we can keep on winning as long as Roy is in the lineup: All of them.

Does your stats explain that? Thats what I thought. :devilwink:

He has two tricks: the spot-up shot and the stand-still alley-oop pass.

Rudy should definitely not have the ball in his hands more because he can't dribble in traffic. That's a requirement for a primary ball-handler or someone depended on to create for others. You cannot consistently initiate offense standing at the wing. You have to be able to drive into the defense, force the defense to react and then exploit the moving defense. Fernandez can't do that, therefore he can't be an initiator/distributor.

Every stat I see tells me that LMA and (and to a slightly lesser degree) Miller have been solid. Both have elevated their PER in Roy's absence. I'm not sure what Roy has to do with LMA and Miller playing "solid" basketball in with Roy out injured.

Wait--what are you doing, using stats? That's just crazy! Don't you know that BK watches the games? How dare you contradict his assertions with hard evidence!!

I want the Rudy of last season back. If we can't have him, you have to wonder what his trade value is.

Right now it's too soon after his surgery to tell how much is physical. Yes, Rudy has limitations. But he was practically leading the league in steals before he had surgery and when he's on, there are few better energy guys. Have people forgotten the alley-oop layup followed by the steal and three to end a quarter against the Suns? And unlike Blake, he can actually create space for his threes, so he's not rendered completely powerless by a simple hand in the face.

    Don't forget the bounce-pass-through-the-legs trick. He's also a very good post-feeder.

Hmm. He should have the ball in his hands more if we ran more - he has very good court vision and looks to pass ahead more than most of our guards.

Man, if Rudy's "bolted" to the locker room, he must be really torqued.

In the olympics, he seemed to have the ball in his hand more and was a bit more effective. I want more of that free-offense. But when every player on the blazers is isolating like that as they have been, its a bit crappy.

He basically plays more of a 3 than a 2.

I agree with that but, at least under McMillan, the team will never run enough for Fernandez to really show off his open-court abilities much.

It's a shame, because I think a lot of this roster would do well in an up-tempo game. A coach who preached getting stops in order to run would be ideal.

why does this kind of introspective analysis always "lag" behind the rest of the commentary? kp must have really put the screws to him to get him to loosen back up.

I don't understand why it wasn't Allen who Wrenched him back to the bench. Maybe Rudy put a hex on him. You know, before he bolted. What a nut.
