So you're saying we can get their 3rd pick?

After spending big to retain most of the roster last summer, the Blazers have no desire to make trades simply to shed salary. The team wants to improve in the short-term and will address the cap situation and tax penalties down the road. This summer will likely be busy for the Blazers and Olshey, with movement and restructuring coming well ahead of the July free agency period.

what's interesting is that this draft IMO is really "equalish" from 12/13 to 40-45 and I really "trust" no one, especially the PF/C types and SF's as well. So while one might not "trust" Pacseniks or Bolden or Bell, or Semi, you may be able to get 2 or 3 of those guys in the second rd or very late first and frankly their risk of not making it (the lack of trust) is the same (again IMO) as currently higher ranked guys like Jarret Allen/John Collins/Ike/Patton/Giles/Leaf/Hartenstein/Adebayo. So from my view perhaps trade back and maybe grab Philly's early 2nd rd picks and see if you could pick up a few of the guys like Bolden/Bell/Semi or Pasecniks there

Yeah, makes too much sense for both clubs for that deal not to happen.

I guess we will see who get invited for dinner with management. We zero in with what players we will be looking at for those 3 draft position.

It doesn't make much sense for Kings though, does it? Fox is very likely to be still available at 5. I don't think 76ers are taking a ball dominant point guard who can't shoot, likewise I very much doubt Suns will take Fox over Tatum/Jackson. So they are basically giving up #10 for possibly nothing.

What Kings might actually do is move up from #10 to #7 to try and take Isaac. They don't have any wings and good wings won't be available at 10 anymore. On the other hand Timberwolves do not need a small forward but could use Zach Collins at 10. If Kings offer #10 and #34, Wolves might take that? Or they might try to trade cap space for #8 with Knicks.

Kings can still acquire a couple of pick through trading cap space. Spurs pick is up for grabs if they are willing to take Gasol because Spurs will want run at Paul in free agency. We might give them #26 if they take Crabbe. Lots of possibilities when you are $36M below salary floor.

For me, Kings trading two top 10 picks for one makes no sense here. They WILL get Fox IMO and I also feel that they will move up to get Isaac. If not then Markkanen or Collins at 10 still makes sense too - Collins for all round ability, Markkanen for shooting which they will need when they get Fox. I feel though that Markkanen will be disappointment in the league at first and someone you might be able to take 1-2 years down the line just for taking on bad contracts.

Then they will tank 2018 to get a top 3 pick and fast track their rebuild. If they can get a Fox/Hield/Isaac/M. Porter/Skal core next year, this could potentially get them somewhere.

If SAC trades 5 & 10 up to 3, we need to try extremely hard to trade up to 6.

    Why?

Because SAC would take Fox 3rd, and PHX would take Jackson or Tatum 4th. PHI would most likely take Monk or Smith 5th, leaving one of Jackson or Tatum available for us at 6.

    #15, #20, #26, our 2018 1st, and Harkless for #6, #33, and #35 would be perfect.

That'd be great, but I don't think they pass on the opportunity to draft Tatum/Smith/Jackson. Orlando needs to find high-end talent to build around and you have a lot better chance to find that guy at #6.

I don't think they would either, and they shouldn't. However, it's Orlando, so who knows what they do.

I just want one of Tatum/Jackson/Isaac/Monk, and one will be available at 7 and possibly 8. We should really be targeting Orlando, Minnesota, and New York.

No one is talking about us moving up to #9 where Dallas is picking. However, I feel like it could be a real possibility.

In Dirk's 20th season, I feel like Dallas will want to try to compete for a playoff spot. I could see them trying to add talent while trading back in the draft. #15 + Harkless for #9 + Harris + Hammons + Brussino would be an interesting proposition, as Harkless makes their bench better, they only add $2M-$3M so they would still be a player in free agency. Harkless also adds to their youth movement, and all for moving back 6 spots.

We would save a little bit of money, and would have #9, #20, and #26. That draft pick package would make it a lot easier to trade up into the 5-7 range, and would also be a lot more attractive to Chicago and Indiana if they were taking offers for Jimmy Butler and Paul George.

Another package I would try is Harkless, Ezeli, and #15 for #9 and Wesley Matthews.

Dallas would save $7M and get a younger player in Harkless who would fit behind Barnes. We would replace Harkless with Matthews, who would fit, bring veteran leadership, and has ties to the team. Again, #9, #20, and #26 would be a much more attractive draft pick package to other teams than what we have.

but we are not cutting salary for next yr, we are adding as we take on Matthews vs Hark - 6 -7 mil more, that just won't happen IMO

Why not? We can cut costs elsewhere. Matthews makes Crabbe expendable if we draft a wing at #9 or higher (who would replace Harkless). We could use #20 or #26 to dump Turner/Leonard if the added salary is that debilitating (Matthews makes Turner expendable as well). Or, we can use the better draft positioning to make a trade for Butler or George that we couldn't before, and be a contender.

Fans too often say "That initial move won't happen for this reason", when that reason would be addressed later in the off-season. We wouldn't just make that trade and call it good. And even if we did, I think Paul Allen wouldn't mind paying a little bit more money to improve our draft positioning. He loves the draft. #9 is much more valuable than #15 and he knows that.
