Travis is my favorite player and he always starts the season slow. He still needs to get comfortable playing the 3 and with the first unit if Nate leaves him there. I'm sure he'll be playing better in a couple weeks. He's a clutch player and I'm most comfortable with he and Rudy at the line in game situations. That said, I'd rather have Travis off the bench and Batum starting. We need more energy with that first unit. If we could combine the skills of Sergio and Bayless we'd have the perfect point.

Batum was a breath of fresh air tonight..........I think that Pritchard is going to have to make something happen near the trade deadline. I know we're only 2 games into the season, but I think Batum might be just what the doctor ordered for this team. 7'4" wingspan......are you freaking kidding me?!?!?! Kid is going to be good.

Travis fits the whole "versitile" theme the Blazers have in that he plays multiple postions. We already saw tonight that Travis may be needed at PF again this year.

I thought Nate tried a interesting defenisve lineup on the last set play by SA. He had Roy, Outlaw, Batum, Aldridge and Joel. And soon as Pop saw that he called time out, went right to Parker who easily drew the foul on Roy (Parker is too quick for any those players). So it didn't work, but interesting long defensive team.

Point being, Travis can be used in a lot of different senarios.

Being a tad bit sensitive aren't we?

By that standard Joel Przybilla has been more productive than Greg Oden, what's your point? Martell will and forever look like a better starter than Outlaw, that's just the way it is. I like Travis but to say he's a good fit with this ball club is a stretch. Martell produced more at a much younger age than Travis and would probably produce more now if he had no conscience to shoot everytime he touched the ball.

how so? I think the Travis bashing is classic Blazer fans turning on their own. It happens every year.
Travis shot the ball 9 times last night in 31 minutes... the same amount of shots that Frye and Batum took in far less minutes. He was a willing passer throughout the night plus he got to the line a lot and converted. Dude also had 3 steals and a block, the Blazers beat the big bad Spurs and yet some Blazer fans are sniping at their own.... classic.

Looks aside, unfortunately Martell has largely flatlined production wise on a per minute basis since his rookie season. While we would all like to see him take giant steps forward, it sure hasn't happened yet. Every off season we get glowing reports about how great he looks, then the season starts and he's the same inconsistent player he was before. The struggles he's had with his confidence/the yips are a concern as those are tough to shake.

If you look at PER stats (which attempt to gauge productivity per minute), Martell has never been as productive as Travis at any age. Until MW actually does start producing at a higher rate the sort of speculation you're engaged in is only wishful thinking. If I'm going to dream it's going to be with a player thats not already had a few seasons establishing what we should expect. At 19, Batum has already shown more defensive ability on the wing then either of the two 3s ahead of him on the depth chart.

Travis did a much better job last night. I was very happy with how he fit in with the starters. Most of his shots were within the flow of the game. It did really help to be going up against a team with weakened frontcourt. This allowed Travis to play more 4 than he normally gets to. I still prefer him with the second unit, but if he can play this well with the starters, we'll be just fine.

Batum will be a better starter. Travis is best coming off the bench, imo.

he's playing well tonight though, he also had a nice drive, didn't he? And that play where Rudy passed it to him and he just missed the lay up.
As long as he takes it to the hoop, I love his game.

(Frye's the new scapegoat, for those who were curious :p)

Just like last night his best production is coming while he's playing the 4 and not the 3,since the trade to me it was never a question of Outlaw or Webster, but Outlaw or Frye...

    Tonight vs Rockets:

    14 pts, 13 rebs, 2 blks, 1 asst, 1 steal

Shot 2-2 from three point line in a continuing trend of shooting very well from downtown. He shoots 9 of 14 on the season.

That's a GREAT line coming off the BENCH.

And he starts every year slowly and has been improving every year. I don't understand all the hate.

It took Travis 17 games last year to find his form. He is ahead of the curve and his handle is much much improved.

I have a feeling he is going to go on a stretch where he is killing whoever guards him.

Travis just hit two clutch free throws and stole the inbound pass for the win. Eat it, haters.

Good for Travis, I'm happy to see a player start to prove me wrong ... It may be a figment of my imagination, but it seems like Travis has really tried to focus on rebounding and defense, and then feeding off of that energy to get his offense going, that would be a huge change in mindset, and can do nothing but yield positive results down the stretch.

Travis took his usual 1-2 bad looks tonight, but man he is effective on the glass and his D was stout on Miller. He was Mr. 4th Quarter again. Those were some pressure free throws and he came up clutch.
