No thanks to Hedo. Who is going to guard the perimeter scorers? Gotta keep Roy fresh for offense, and Hedo isn't very good at D.
One play? And that too one in which Hedo blocked Kobe's shot? Not a very convincing argument against Hedo. You're severely underrating his defensive capabilities. He's been the best defender against Bryant in the finals, and continues to show that he's not the liability that many predicted. The man can flat out play on both ends of the floor and has the playoff experience that we both sorely lack and desire. He also has had the experience of playing with a center similar to Oden, and has shown throughout his and Howard's tenure in Orlando, the ability to get his big man the ball. I think he'd be a perfect fit here. The only questions would be the potential logjam at the SF position and his contract demands.
Start Batum, Roy, Turkoglu, Aldridge, Oden Problem solved? I don't know if that would work, but it would be awesome. Huge lineup with 2 guys who are known for having good point guard skills, and Batum who is an (at least) above average defender on PGs, SGs, and SFs. 6'6" 6'8" 6'10" 6'11" 7' It's late, I'm tired and it's just a thought I wanted to throw out there.
Agreed. He's an excellent passer, a good creator especially for his size (creates mismatches) and has been clutch since he played a major roll with the Kings during his first couple (including rookie) years. My only main concern is his age, but I think that he still has some good years left in the tank (though in 4-5 years, I don't know what he'll be). I too am enamored with the giant lineup mentioned above. The length will get to a lot of tipped passes and gives me nostalgia of when Pippen started at PG for us.
You guys need to watch more basketball. Seriously. Hedo is a career sub-43% FG shooter and has a Assists to TO ratio of 1.64. Not exactly stellar. He has also never won a championship despite playing with very talented teams in Sacramento, San Antonio, and now Orlando. I find it baffling that some here think he's a good passer when he can't get the ball into D-12 consistently despite being 6-10! Maybe you guys fell in love with him after he made that prayer of a 3 pointer against us? I don't know...
Maybe it's the fact that every single analyst that covers his games says he is one of the best passing forwards in the game? As for the championships, that's a lame argument and you know it. Barkley, Karl Malone, Stockton, Maravich, Ewing, Lanier, Nique, Dantley, Gervin, Bernard King, AI. That's a list of players off the top of my head who never won a championship. At least 1/2 of those players were all on the 50 greatest players team. Hedo is a solid role player, who is better, by far, than any SF we have had on our roster since Pippen.
What the heck is that supposed to mean??? You want to give a max contract or close to it to Turkoglu? That's crazy talk!
I'll let Hollinger speak for me: Now, what happens with Roy? We certainly don't want to ask too much of him on D because he has to carry the load on offense. Turkoglu is just a bad fit on this team.
I guess I don't see the difference between not asking Blake, Sergio, Travis, Frye or Rudy to play D and Turkoglu?
The best players play at both ends of the floor i.e. Kobe, Lebron. There is no excuse for giving Roy a pass on his D. Secondly, Hedo is no worse than Outlaw or Webster at defense. He has a higher BB IQ than both of them and knows where to be on the court. Unlike either of them, he can consistently get to the rim and plays point forward all the time. He also is great at creating his own shot which is something we need desperately next to Roy. For his defensive shortcoming Hedo is pretty good at forcing his man into double teams or into his shot blocking big man down low. We have enough shooters to space the floor and teams can't just leave him open from out there. I would like to see Outlaw or Webster moved if we were going to acquire him to save us from the potential logjam at SF.
I would love to see a lineup of(this is if both Sergio and Outlaw are moved) PG: Blake / Bayless SG: Roy / Rudy SF: Hedo / Batum / Webster PF: Aldridge / Hedo C: Oden / Przybilla
Maybe the second half of the 4th quarter if the game is close. Most of the game they do not guard the other teams best player.
I didn't say they did. Both of them play on both sides of the floor, most of the time. I don't see why Roy should get a pass.
I don't think he should get a pass but I don't think he should be guarding the other teams best player the whole game.
