Seeing lots of CJ on The Jump today; it's on mute though. Anyone got a summary?

I have concerns about him. The rumors about him and Hibbert's girlfriend are especially concerning........ but then again, didn't Tony Parker sleep with Brent Barry's wife?

It won't be a problem... if Paul sleeps with Nurk's girlfriend... well let's just say it won't be a problem, see?

That's got to be all-time worst, depth-wise. Still had Wall, George, Cousins and Hayward. And Avery Bradley and Eric Bledsoe. But ugh.

Obviously Neil will try to trade some of our bad contracts this off seasons but I wonder if he goes a step further and tries to trade for some expiring contracts in attempt to free up cap room to make a run at PG during free agency next summer.

Nurk would also be a RFA but the way I understand it is you can go above the tax to resign your own guys. So if we can free up some space to make an offer to PG and he accepts (Huge fuckin if) and we wait to resign Nurk after the PG deal we would be able to keep Nurkic, Dame, CJ, PG with all of them being payed handsomely. Pipe dreaming here.

We have absolutely zero chance of convincing Paul George to join us in the free agency, nor do we really have cap flexibility to offer him $30M+ he will without doubt get. It'd require us to basically erase everyone bar Lillard, McCollum and the rookies.

Not true at all. If he makes one of the three all NBA teams next season, his current team can offer him the new super max contract of nearly $210 million, compared to the $130 million max anyone else can offer him. That's a LOT of reasons to re-sign with whoever holds his Bird Rights.

He also wants to play for a contender. $210 million and playing for a top 4 team looks a lot better than $130 million and playing for a lottery team.

The fact that he didn't make all NBA this year is exactly why he's back on the market. Without IND being able to offer him a super max extension this summer, they are worried he won't make it next year and will leave for nothing. That's probably justified.

A change of scenery and playing with better teammates in a contract year may be just the motivation he needs to have a career year and make all NBA in 2017-18.

Edit: apparently, I'm wrong. The right to offer a player a super max contract does not convey with his Bird rights. That right is the exclusive property of the team that signed him to his rookie contract. So, unless George stays in IND for the 2017-18 season AND meets one of the super max criterion, there won't be any super max deal for him.

And help us get to the WCF!!!!! Of which he will want to resign so the following season we can dethrone those bratty warriors.

Say we do successfully trade for PG, would we be able to resign him AND Nurk the following summer to big deals? I know you can go over in order to resign your own guys but I'm not sure exactly how that would work with a UFA.

Seems like we would have to completely clear the roster in order to make room for PG's contract, and with already having Dame and CJ on the books I'm not sure that's even possible.

Yeah maybe. We'd end up with a $170M payroll or so if we traded AC for George, and George earned the supermax.

We'd try hard to move Harkless/Turner and Leonard. That would give us a $140M-$150M payroll. Still not pretty but worth it for a big 4. We'd still have Turner/Harkless at backup SF, but we'd need to try to sign vet minimum/MLE free agents to fill out our bench. Vets like Zach Randolph, Tony Allen, Thabo Sefelosha, etc. who think that we can contend and are willing to come here.

If he can be had without giving up CJ/Dame/Nurk then I say do it.

I would not trade CJ for him. Maybe I would feel differently if there weren't so many indications that he wants to go to LA, but giving up CJ with the potential risk of losing him in one year is simply too much.

Feel like Boston has the advantage here in the Paul George situation

Doing some sort of CJ for PG trade would be risky as hell, but it'd probably be for the best. I think part of the PG to LA talk is sports media bias toward bigger markets. If Nurkic can take the next step, you'd have a solid big 3.

In the west you need a big 4.....add George you'd be keepin' CJ but desperate to move Crabbe, Turner, Harkless and Leonard....fill the bench with older vets and rookies
