Lillard said if we don't want him he'd sign with LA. Fuck him now? :dunno:

If the Knicks were interested in trading Porzingis for George, they'd deal with Indiana directly. Porzingis is a far better return for Indiana than Portland's draft picks. But there's no way the Knicks would do that--without Porzingis, New York offers nothing to George. They'd lose him after a year for certain.

I think I would still do it.

Watch the Lakers suck balls again this year. Unless he has an arrangement with someone like RW to go there together, I just really don't see someone wanting to go play for a lottery team.

If he came here and we were top 4 in the west and contending, AND we had his bird rights, I think we could get him to stay.

    Woj:

Who will be traded this week?

Chances of George have obviously increased. He & his agent told the Pacers Saturday not only are they opting out, they aren't returning. Their preference & likelihood is the Lakers. By telling them now, their best chance to get value is through this draft. Everyone in the league sees George as a rental. You'll have him for one season. How much will you give up? Teams I talked to who might have interest are not ready to offer a great deal. Lakers have to get involved here & do a deal themselves. What if Boston does a deal & he has a great season? All the sudden, Lakers never get a crack. Lakers have to on some level get aggressive to see if there is a deal. I don't know if there's a great appetite to give George what he wants and send him to the Lakers.

    Cavs game plan?

They'd like Paul George. He's a prototype on both ends of the floor if trying to compete with Golden State. I don't know what the package is. They have talked. For Cleveland, the assets, if you're Indiana, you're going younger & getting draft picks. Cleveland doesn't have picks to give. Cleveland knows George has no interest in playing for them & no interest staying long term. He doesn't see Cleveland in his future. Cleveland is in a tough spot. David Griffin's deal expires end of the month.

For a serious analysis here.....the Clippers could swap Griffin for him and he'd still be in LA

    Here's an interesting scenario.

If it would cost the same to get either (let's say Crabbe + 20+ 26), would you want:

    A. Paul George (without a guarantee that he will stay past 2018)
    or
    B. Kevin Love (on contract until 2020)

    A. Even in the best of times, you have to shoot the moon to find yourself with a title shot. In the shadow of the Warriors' dread empire, that goes double. Love is safer, George is higher variance.

I would take George. I would roll the dice. Losing Crabbe and some late first rounders isn't a big loss in my mind. Let George get a year in our culture and see if he's really willing to turn down a max contract.

That's all fine and dandy if all he cares about is playing for his home-town team. But I suspect he'll be in for a rude awakening if he cares about winning at all. He's played his entire career in the Eastern Conference, and couldn't build much of a winner in that wasteland. While the Western Conference has slipped a bit, it's still going to be A LOT harder for him to find success out here if he joins a team that currently sucks. So, I wonder what his definition of "being the man" entails. Because he could very well be "the man" for the Lakers in a similar manner to how Cousins was "the man" for the Kings, or maybe even like KG was for the Wolves or Melo for the Nuggets. But he's not gonna be "the man" like Kobe was.

And by watching him up close and personal for the last five years I've been in Indy, I can tell he's not really the alpha type. Although his stats and impact are impressive, you never get the impression that he can carry a team (franchise/city) like Dame does. I don't think he can handle the pressure, especially in a mass media market like LA. Which is also why coming to POR next to an instinctive leader like Dame would boost his profile that much more.

He kinda reminds me of Orlando Dwight a bit.

If someone told me they didn't want me I'd go to their most hated rival too.

I have a some real doubts about Dame/CJ/George being able to coexist. Would CJ really want to be the third banana?
