And since agents get paid on commission, this is also the time of year when they start leaking "rumors" in hope that some of their clients end up grossly overpaid.

If anything, I would think the agents are even more thrilled with the new, much higher salary cap than the players they represent. This new TV deal is going to make a lot of agents very wealthy men.

I'll add this rumor to the same pile I put the "Joakim Noah is getting a max deal" rumor. This is agents trying to create false rumors to jack the bidding price up.

The Blazers better not resign meyers for a dime more than 12 million with his injury and inability to progress....sign and trade him....also I think other teams will be more apt to try and force him to play the 5

Just so long as it's not us paying him, I'm easy. (i.e. "highest paid big who used to be a Blazer")

How is speaking to an NBA GM and getting a direct quote from someone else baseless speculation?

Now saying his article is baseless speculation is in fact baseless speculation, so that's ironic

    good point, except...

True Story: My department chair at a university in the midwest had a meeting with the president of the university. The president started lying to his face during the meeting. The department chair KNEW he was lying. However, he happen to also know that the president KNEW that the department chair KNEW he was lying. That's life in a dysfunctional world.

A rival GM is talking to a reporter during a time period where lying to a reporter is considered standard practice. Are things said in these situations legitimate rumors? Are discussions based on these "rumors" legit? It sounds like it's all baseless speculation.

So, what ISN'T baseless speculation? Well, if a rumor has multiply sources, one tend to lend more credence to it. In this article two sources disagree, and JClown emphasizes the more outrageous one.

Mark Cuban will overpay Meyers...Dirk is getting old...he might offer Wes money or Parsons money and let Parsons walk.

So Pizza guy, working for another team, tells me something. I say it here. Is that "baseless" speculation? I don' think so? Is it true? Who the hell knows, but what I repeated in here, that he said isn't baseless.

Me saying I am going to have sex with Anna Kendrick tonight is baseless because I don't know her, I am 50 and I am happily married.

If we strike out on all the bigs we seem to be after, I wonder if they would take a swing at Parson's?

Resign him for $11M and trick Atlanta into thinking he's great so they give us Millsap.

This back and forth between the cap rising and player contracts is idiotic...it's like with our economy, minumwage rises, so does inflation, it doesn't work, it puts us tight back in the hole we just started climbing out of....there needs to be a period where there is a cap on inflation, so people can adjust accordingly...just like teams paying way to much for players just because the cap ceiling has been raised...

We have had 20 years to adjust. Shaq got $121 million back in 1996. Garnett got $126 million in 2000. The owners were able to slow the rapidly rising contracts, but it's time things caught up.
