"It’s why the Blazers coaching staff encouraged him this summer to not only workout, but engage in a lot of 5-on-5.

'I think the biggest thing for Meyers is he needs to probably get a feel of reacting to the game,’ Blazers coach Terry Stotts said at the end of last season. 'I think he needs to play a lot this summer and work on his reaction time on both ends of the court.'

Wasn't this obvious years ago, that Myers has no natural feel for the game and that the only hope was to put him in 5 0n 5 situations constantly and hope that it just sinks in after awhile. I know that I suggested this years ago; asked why they weren't playing him in the D league. I even suggested that it would be worth paying 9 ex-college guys to come in every night to the gym and play with him.

I remember talking to a couple of NBA guys and both said the same thing about ML. Not sure he really/actually understands how to play the game. It's why he's lost on defense. On offense you can be "told" where to go much of the time. Easy enough. Defense takes some sense, feel and awareness which he has none.

completely agree, but I don't think Stotts is less frustrated than we are...

Sometimes ML comes off, at least to me, as someone who liked playing basketball but wasn't super coordinated, then all the sudden had a growth spurt and was told he should play.

He plays a lot like a (really bad, slow and old) SG at times.

I wasn't saying anything about it being against the rules. Was trolling.

    Did I do it wrong?

Pretty much sums up my view. There really isn't much, physically, keeping him from being at least a decent player and worth being in the rotation.

It seems like he's had some injuries that affected his growth. Didn't he start this season with a sore right shoulder?

    EDIT:
    http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/i...zers_meyers_leonard_undergoes_surgery_on.html

Shoulder surgery, out 6-8 months starting April. 6 months is September at the minimum. Plus those 6-8 months were lost development time.

I have a Meyers theory that he has a need for an alpha male ...lost his dad, lost Kim Hughes, lost Wes and lost Chris Kaman......he said in his interview here that he was Wes' rookie...what should I do Wes? This is his biggest issue...he needs to be his own trainer if he really wants to grow into a confident athlete...feel sort of like he's looking for someone to fix his glitch when he should be looking to himself to do that...Swanigan doesn't need that....self starter from what I've seen...when asked about his mentor in college Swanigan said....we're done now, I have to start over and earn everything again..I appreciate what he did for me but it's my job to keep working now and earning my place....I'm a fan of Biggie!!!

Bear with me here.... Meyers is by all acount's a pretty dang good athletes for a guy who measures out at 7'1". Yeah there have been centers that jump higher but not many that height, same for agility and sprint speeds. He's also got a very muscular frame, again unlike most guys his size who are just lanky or even pudgy. He has very good hands, he shoots extremely well by any standard, he passes extremely well for a big man, rebounds at a good clip (patience I'm getting there), plays good on ball "post" defense.... He has every single tool you could hope for in a center except maybe shot blocking. But let's look at his career per 36 and shooting.

    1st: 11.3pts, 7.6reb, 1ast .545fg, .429-3pt (7 attempts) Drtg 110
    2nd: 9.9pts, 11.3 reb, 1.8ast, .451fg, .000-3p (6 attempts) Drtg 105
    3rd: 13.9pts, 10.8reb 1.4ast, .510fg, .420-3pt (112 attempts) Drtg 102

Now lets stop right there. Those 3 seasons Meyers played Center. Lamarcus left after this season and Meyers was moved to PF.

    4th: 13.8pts, 8.5reb, 2.5ast, .448fg, .377-3pt (228 attempts) Drtg 109
    5th: 11.8pts, 7.0reb, 2.1ast, .386fg, .347-3pt (213 attempts) Drtg 112

Looking at his splits he plays a little better coming off the bench, but not significantly. Looking at 82 games, Meyers plays very good defense as a Center, but gets completely owned at PF.
