I'm kind glad Myers is "betting on himself" and turned down the contract, because I've been betting we'll grow to be thankful we didn't sign him up longterm. If he really thinks he has an elite set of skills and think he can get a contract over what was offered, good luck to him - I hope he has fun on his next team! I doubt the Blazers would have tried to stick him with a completely shit contract but he obviously thinks he can perform and prove enough to warrant more .... wonder what his 'more' is? 8-9-10M a season? I wish that kind of stupidity on LA, Houston, Minny & Miami.
All of the sudden when the Blazers go small and put him as the center they become a scoring machine. It helps when the entire team hits the boards.
The people who have said Meyers needs to play at C, not PF, are probably on to something. It's not so much that he spaces the floor for others, rather that he needs the spacing of another big who can shoot. Meyers is deadly when wide open, but his movements are too mechanical if he has to rush it.
Has anyone ever gotten a link from a reputable source saying that Neil actually offered him that contract? Why are we treating this like it really happened? None of us know and should not be holding Neil accountable for something that hasn't been proven to be true.
Dude, every watch nba players warm up? Many guys are deadly when left wide open. But there's a little problem in that during the game, you usually have someone playing defense.
You don't know whether Olshey tendered a detailed, real contract, or just mentioned an approximate number range in passing by him one day, while simultaneously saying that Leonard would be a starter this year, so he should turn it down. I think that was the case for all the players we lost. He lost them on purpose, to create a Clipper-style 30-year-rebuilding.
Dude, Leonard consistently makes his when wide open during games, unlike a lot of players. What the hell was the point of that response?
Because only being able to make your "wide open" shots really limits your usefulness as a player, because wide open looks are relatively rare. And he's only shooting 31% from 3 on the year, so he's shooting worse than guys like Lillard and CJ that put up more conteseted shots. It's like Deandre Jordan, sure he shoots a great percentage, but that doesn't mean he's a good offensive player. In fact he's known to be crappy at offense, his percentage is only high because he only takes point blank shots.
However in the last 5 games he is 16 of 29 from 3 point. Meyers has been on fire since busting out of his slump.
So, your point about "ever watch players making shots pre-game" was totally pointless? A 7'er who only dunks is like a 7'er who shoots mostly threes, because they're both selective and shoot high percentages... Didn't anyone tell you that NBA comparisons can't cross racial lines?
The most frustrating thing about leonard is that he won't shoot a 3 even when he's guarded by some shrimpy point guard . . .
If I thought it were pointless I wouldn't have said it. The ability to hit a wide open jumper is not such a rare skill. If you pass up any shot but wide open jumpers you can get a fg% that is artificially high, just like only shooting point blank. I don't think I can spoon feed it to you any more simply.
I disagree...look at free throws as an example...nobody guards the 7 footers who can't make them..it's a short set shot. If you have a game on the line who do you want shooting a wide open 3....Meyers, Davis or Plumlee......hands down it's Meyers. I couldn't put it more simply
