Well, they were raised by the same mama</div>
Uhm Marcus Vick stepped stomped on a player and a different player on the VT basketball team did the samething as well in a game a few days ago. I believe that's what BA meant but a coincendence.

I, tongue in cheek, pointed this out earlier in this thread.

    That's exactly what I meant.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Wannab Favre)</div><div class='quotemain'>I play amateur Gaeliv Football and I don't care what you say, in the heat of battle, you do things you wouldn't consider doing otherwise!

If it was in the NFL or the English Soccer Premiership where players are getting payed thousands and millions to represent football teams, I would understand kicking him off the team or suspending or fining. But not a 21 year old playing football for fun. It is college ball and these players dont get millions and thus may not consider their actions.

Funny story, A team about 20 minutes from me got really badly screwed by a red and they beat him up and put him into the boot (trunk) of a car! That was old time Ireland though....back in 2000!</div>
First, there's also a difference between some pushing or shoving and taking you the heel of your foot and kicking someone right in the face, which is what Washington did to his opponent or stomping your cleat into the knee of of your opponent, which is what Marcus Vick did to Elvis Dumervil. Players had better learn quickly that because they are on the field of competition, they are not immune to the laws of the land. Just because Elvis Dumervil was on the same field as Marcus Vick didn't give Marcus the right to intentionally injure Elvis. Are you telling me that if Marcus Vick had taken his cleat and stomped on the throat of a prone player, causing a potentially life threatening injury, that he shouldn't be held accountable because they happened to be on football field? To say that an athlete can get mad and intentionally injure someone then blame it on the "heat of battle" is a steaming pile of crap. In fact, I have heard of hockey players facing potential jail time for intentionally using their hockey sticks to cause severe life threatening injuries.

Secondly, I can not agree that there should be two sets of rules for players that get paid vs players who do not get paid. Perhaps it's because I don't understand the connection between getting paid and being able to control one's temper. Should people get paid to control their temper? I would think that if your just playing for fun, then the pressure should be less thus there should be much less of a reason to lose one's temper.

Is there something wrong with sports, if, instead of building character, sports is used a reason to overlook the lack of character? Is there something wrong with sports, if we become so narsissistic that we value winning to the point of excusing poor sportsmanship? Personally, I would rather lose every game and conduct myself in a respectful manner than win while acting like a jerk.

Finally, I have to disagree with finding your story about the ref funny. It sounds to me like those losers had to find an excuse for losing so they blamed a ref. Even if he did make a bad call, that no excuse for beating him up and locking him in a car. They're criminals and should go to jail. Being an American of Irish decent, it doesn't make me proud to think that that would be funny in old time Ireland.
