I think I understand how you were using it.

Most of the time, people use "game manager" to imply that the QB isn't talented enough to shoulder greater responsibility. I'll disagree with anyone who believes that's the case with Eli. The fact is that passing the ball will always be more inherently risky than running the ball, regardless of how good your players are. No one's shown the ability to stop our running game, so our coaches have yet to find any reason to pass the ball more.

    I'm not sure you did.

I believe Eli has the ability to extrapolate his current statistics to a greater volume, at the same time he has gone into a minor slump since the Browns game. He is indeed a manager now (be it his fault or not), because he simply has not proven himself to be a volume passer this particular season nor does his efficiency merit amazing praise. I think he can be a volume passer if needed, but he hasn't empirically proven that this year. Romo has missed 3 games and I'd still have him above Eli on my ballot for the MVP.

i mean, they definitely haven't won games with vince young at qb before with a worse defense and worse rbs, have they?

as soon as kerry collins name is mention in the same sentence as pro bowl(much less mvp), he's being massively overrated. he's had 2 good games and the rest of the time he's stayed out of the team's way enough to let them win the game for him.

Kerry Collins is no MVP Candidate. If you want one, give out dual-MVP awards to LenDale White and Chris Johnson or give Albert Haynesworth the MVP

Soo....after tonight, I might have to give Drew Brees the nod as an MVP candidate. Without him, that team goes nowhere. That defense can't stop anyone and their run game isn't that great. He has been un-freaking-believable. I think he just had his 8th 300+ yard game of the year and is on his way breaking Marino's 24 year old record for yards in a season. Wow.

    MVP - Payton Manning
    OPOY - Drew Brees
    DPOY - Kris Jenkins
OROY - Matt Ryan (Eddie Royal)
DROY - Jerod Mayo (Dominique Rogers-Cromartie)
    COY - Mike Smith

I threw a couple of other candidates in there for the rookie awards. Those guys are having great seasons but the winners are pretty well entrenched.

Manning is far from the MVP. He's having a down year statistically.

Jenkins gets my vote as DPOY.

If my fucking Chargers weren't so bad, I think Rivers would be the front runner for the MVP. He leads the league in TDs thrown, QB rating, and top 5 in passing yards.

He is indeed having a down year due to two surgeries that even caused him to lose muscle mass just weeks before the season, but he's not "far" from the MVP in a year when it is such a multifaceted race. His Qb rating on 4th down is 158.3 (8/10 for 140 yards and a TD which is more attempts than any other QB IIRC), he's kept this team together and has led us on 6 comeback drives this season. He's been an incredible leader this season.

Brees/Warner/etc. is having a great year, though it isn't the passing yards itself that impress me. People make too much about the yardage record in my opinion because great QBs on solid teams run out the clock at the end of a game instead of having to play catchup. Marino happened to get 5000 yards because he was averaging 9 yards a pass.

I think Peyton's having a great year. His O-Line sucks and Marvin Harrison is nothing like he used to be, yet he has the Colts at 7-4.

It's not like the Patriots. If Jim Sorgi was in there all year their record would look like the Chargers' or worse.

DPOY is going to be a real close race. You can easily make cases for Ware, Harrison, Jenkins, Haynesworth.

OROY is a 3 way race between Ryan, Forte, and Johnson. Ryan will win it because of the glamor of the QB position, his team's success, and he's doing it a much harder position.

DROY has to go to Mayo, probably.

The Dolphins turnaround has been much more impressive than the Falcons, I don't see how people could pick Smith over Sparano.

I think people are enamoured by the fact that the Falcons made as quick a turnaround as they did amidst all the turmoil surrounding that team. Most people would look at the Falcons and think that it'd take at least a few years to get things going again after losing your franchise QB as well as your coach.

The Dolphins...sure...they sucked, you can't question that. But they don't have the off-field distractions the Falcons have had to deal with over the course of the past couple seasons. You could also argue that they were without their best player for most of last season too, when Ronnie Brown went down. I'm not saying he alone would have won them more games, but I think he would have helped them out a lot.

In the end...I personally think it's a toss up. Both have done a great job turning their respective franchises around...though in the end...I still give it to Belicheck.

I think Tom Coughlin should get mention as a COY candidate, even if he doesn't win it. Obviously the guy's working with a very talented roster, but there have been quite a few situations this season that could've very easily become distractions for this team. He's got everyone on the roster focused on one goal and the teams been able to withstand quite a lot. Not to mention, he's shown some excellent game management this year too.

    Anyways, my current picks are:

    MVP: Peyton Manning
    OPOY: Drew Brees
    DPOY: Demarcus Ware
    COY: Tony Sparano
    OROY: Matt Ryan
    DROY: Jerod Mayo

Have to agree with Chutney, our running offense is nearly last in the league, Marvin's old and Reggie has a messed up ankle (dropped a TD on Sunday too unfortunately). It is amazing how we're 8-4, plus the ridiculous comeback games this year and string of fourth downs. I liked the rest of your list too, pretty respectable.
