Bibby is 30 (turns 31 in May) Not as old as you think. He came out after is Frosh year at Zona (remember the Bibby/Simon Backcourt that won a title?) Lots of mileage on those 30 year old legs, but he's been playing well. I don't know what his "window" would be. J-Kidd turns 36 next month and (while he's a shadow of his former self) he's still playing decent ball. Mark Jackson & Gary Payton played until about 39. It seems like must PG's start to slow down around 34/35. Some earlier, some later. If he's 1A on Pritchard's list - than he obviously feels Bibs has something left beyond this season. I can't see him making a move with this year only in view. I like Josh Smith, but he's where do you play him here? You think he'll be okay with b/u LA? He's not a 3, he can't shoot for dirt. 58% FT's this year and he's made 23% of 3's. Marvin Williams is interesting, although not the best fit here either. What is he anyways? A 3? A 4? He seems like a combo forward. Shoots good, but too slow to be a 3. Nice post game, but not the most physical guy at the 4. Maybe that's why Atlanta wants to trade Smith or Williams. Both guys are kind of stuck in between positions. They both have unique talent sets though . . . I have to say I'm more excited about Bibby. I've always loved his game. Remember, he was able to co-exist with C-Webb, Peja, B-Jax, and other scorers in Sac. He found a way to get everybody involved AND get his 15-20 PPG. They were a bunch of bad 4th quarter calls and a lucky Robert Horry shot away from (probably) winning a title, and Bibby was their Mr. Clutch. Not Webber, Peja, Vlade or anyone else. He's a good locker room guy too. Why would Atlanta want this deal? They are currenty the #4 seed in the East. Sure, they are looking up at Boston, Cleveland, & Orlando but anything can happen. What if Labron goes down? They proved last year they can play with Boston (taking them 7 games) And Jameer Nelson is out for Orlando, which hurts them a lot. This deal is a step back for the Hawks this season, unless they are just worried about money I don't get it.
Get out of here. Andre Miller/Igoudala? That's a dream trade. I like Bayless, but "see ya" if that is available.
Well Mixum, we're #4 in the West. Are WE NOT trading? I know you feel we are headed towards a collapse (as the roster currently is composed) Just saying, you never know.
Igoudala is Phili's Brandon Roy, no way they trade him. That's why I didnt take the rumor to seriously.
NO! We HAVE TO TRADE!!!! We are the ones w/ playoff experience, in the easier conference and the older team!!! We aren't incorporating any new players this year... our guys should be playing like they've been together their whole lives! WE SHOULD BE BETTER!! oh wait....
I don't believe the rumor even if it is something you heard from someone working for the Blazers. I just don't see us including Bayless in a trade for Bibby and Smith. I love Smith's game but seems more a PF then SF and most Hawk posters seem to agree. Bibby is past his prime and IMO has maybe 2-3 good years left. That is just not what KP would trade for from what I have read especially giving up our only chance again IMO of having a really good future PG. If we made this trade we would have Smith playing out of position and clogging the middle even more and we would never be able to get the ball to Oden down low. In a couple years Bibby would be almost done and we would be way over the cap with hardly any chance to get a good PG with having middle of the draft 1st round picks and no Bayless or even PetKop to someday take over the PG position. It just doesn't make sense for us or the Hawks. I think the Hawks have a chance to beat anybody in the east after the top 2-3 teams and even then if they get a little lucky might knock off one of those teams. They would lose even more money if they have a bad team just ask the Kings. This deal is a nothing deal and I doubt it had ever been discussed.
we are trading scrubs.....the hawks would be trading key players. with that said...i think 1 of 2 sergios good career games came against atlanta last year
I'd go for Bibby/Smith, Miller/Thad.... anything that brings back a vet point guard and a starting quality small forward, but I'd like to be able to keep Bayless at this point. We might be able to get either Bibby or Miller via free agency.
latest update from knicks blog The Heat have less than 48 hours to spin recently-acquired forward Jermaine O’Neal and I wonder if Pat Riley is working the phones to get a deal done in order to bring Amar’e to South Beach. The Heat do not have a first round pick this year, they owe that to Minnesota (top 10 protected) in the Ricky Davis deal, but is it possible that Steve Kerr wants major cap room for 2010 by taking O’Neal and some pick from Miami for Amar’e? It makes sense that Kerr would deal Amar’e to the east, as we’ve learned that in fact the Blazers were in discussions but the Suns are asking way too much in return. The Blazers will be making a deal by Thursday, count on it. Adding Amar’e would go a long way in keeping Dwayne Wade around long term, and would instantly make the Heat Eastern Conference contenders. Either way, the Heat appear to be major players in 2010, but why not jump at the chance to land an All-Star to pair with D-Wade now? It’s a long shot but we’re talking about Shrewd Riles here.
I think i'd prefer to not upgrade the PG position and upgrade the SF position... Outside of KD and LBJ... my favorite is Granger who is pretty much in that untouchable category... but then I like Green, Gay, Butler, Young, Prince... and then probably Wallace and Deng followed by Thorton and Smith. Any of those players would be tight, imo. Some interesting ones that I don't like that much are like Turkoglu, Josh Howard, Richard Jefferson and Shawn Marion (recently traded).
The only reason the Hawks trade may make sense is the financial situation the Hawks are in. Their ownership is scattered and Raef's contract along with the financial incentive of it is maybe a little intriging. But I'm of the opinion nothing happens. I think the Blazers will take the savings for their own.
i know, i wouldn't be too pissed though b/c I do heart Smooth as well. i would give up batum and an extra first to take Bayless out of the deal. Any how we could give up Marty instead of Travis?
It would have to be a three team deal. J-Smoove is BYC, so he's almost impossible to trade him in a two team trade.
Had you actually heard anything, or are you just making a joke? I think Iggy would probably fit better than Smith (he's just a smarter player and more of a wing defender, as Smith roams more), but his contract is way bigger (maybe incentive for Philly though). Blake/Bayless/Outlaw/Raef for Miller/Iggy (they would save a ton of money)
Because ATL is in financial trouble as is many other teams. If Smith is coming back than Bayless is going out, period. Also the deal is being sweetend by Portland to make it work. I didn't get the feeling that Marvin W is who Portland want's. I could be wrong and these person(s) were yanking my chain, but I got excited when I heard it twice. I think ATL does it because they know there are losing Bibby this summer. Also Smith's contact although reasonable has 5 years remaining. I had to be convinced that ATL was doing it also and I have to say with Travis's better play of late has really helped our chances. Remember Portland is sending out Picks and cash also. The savings could be close to $ 15M for ATL along with the players, picks, etc.... ................And NO, I am no Insider, just got lucky in talking with a few people that said ATL is desperate to save $ .
He has the quickness and athleticism to play a kind of "flex" forward ... the only concern is that he has an atrocious jumper that rarely goes in. He wouldn't be a "wing" on offense at all, but maybe LaMarcus' can fill that role?
