When we are on the plane and I'm reading the game threads, he just busts up laughing at peoples reactions on here. He can't believe how negative or suicidal people get. He always says, "Don't these guys know basketball is a game of runs?" But the thing he laughs the most about is when somebody misses a free throw and all someone posts is a picture of Schonz! Cracks up everytime I show him.
I adore Wild Rice ("The Coach, Mike Rice!"). I started listening to games in 1989-90, and Geoff Petrie was the analyst then. He was good, but Rice was the coach where Petrie was the player. I feel like his years on radio with Schonz were really formative to how I see the game of basketball. Even more than The Schonz, which is sacrilegious, but I don't care. Plus, he's got a really good eye for things like what play the last play of a game should be. I think it was the crazy Andre Miller oop to Batum? He called it. Heck, he practically designed the play during the on-air timeout. He knows more than I do, and has forgotten twice as much over again.
For a guy that has to stream most of the Blazer games AND those streams are generally from the opposing teams broadcast, I will say that I LOVE it when I finally get a Mike&Mike stream. Listening to the other teams broadcasters around the league make me want to die inside. The majority of them suck. God when they played Boston the other day, jesus..... THAT was bad. Rice is nowhere near those guys. Mike and Mike kick-ass, and Rice makes it 10x better.
