This is going to seem a little Football 101-ish, but the constant defending of Michael Vick requires that we go back to sound and reasonable football analysis rather than continue discussing Vick in nebulous and undefinable terms that leave us with unsubstantial and unstatisfying arguments. Football is a game of space, speed, size and stratagies that manipulate those three elements. Space is the football field itself and it is vast. The battle between the offense and defense is a battle of speed and size. The defense must employ stratagies in order to best cover this vast space and protect the most valuable space on the field, the endzone. The offense must employ stratagies that give them the best chance to find undefended spaces and advance on the most valuable space, the endzone. One method of doing this is by creating mismatches between offensive players and defensive players. Obviously, if you have a fast player get past a bigger player then you eliminate the larger player's advantage of size. Conversely, if you take away a fast players running lanes, then you eliminate his advantage of speed and quickness. How do you keep defenses from eliminating those running lanes? One way is blocking schemes, but, in order to do this, you must follow blocking and that isn't something that Michael Vick does very often. Vick is sometimes able to create mismatches through improvisation, but well disciplined defenses often shut that non-strategy down by remaining true to proven strategies like defending their assigned section of the field and being able to trust their teammates to do the same, thus eliminating Vick's ability to find running lanes. A second way to keep defenses from eliminating running lanes is by making them respect the pass. This is Vick's ultimate weakness. Michael Vick in his SIXTH year in the NFL still cannot complete passes consistantly over the course of an entire season. (Vick has enough trouble completing passes consistantly over the course of an entire game.) His inability to throw accurately enables defenses to concentrate on shutting down or, at least, containing the running game because the Falcons are unable to advance the ball consistantly through the air. It would seem that a more successful style of offense would be one where the Falcons would put Schaulb at QB in order to be able to establish an actual passing threat that would cause defenses to have to cover a larger area of space on more plays than just obvious passing downs. It would also seem wise to move a player with Michael Vick's running ability to as many different RB/WR positions as possible to create defensive mismatches. It would also seem wise to use a variety of plays where Vick might have the option to pass to take advantage of his arm or to employ Vick and Dunn in the same backfield to confuse defense as to which runner may get the ball and which direction will he be running. That would seem more advantageous than using an offense where the QB is a runner and the RB is a runner and the forward pass is a passing thought. The myth is that the Falcons style of offense is so unconventional that it is impossible to defend properly and gives the Falcons a winning edge. The INDISPUTABLE Truth is that the Falcons didn't make the playoffs last year and it looks like they are going to fall short again this year. The Truth is that, while the Falcons are unconventional and difficult to shut down, they are one dimensional and are usually unable to win enough games to make the playoffs let alone make a substantial or legitimate run at a Super Bowl victory. The Truth is that, as long as the Falcons are one dimensional, they will be meet a well disciplined defense somewhere along the way that will contain the running game and the Falcons will get beat. The Truth is that, while the Falcons are one diminsional, they absolutely cannot afford to ever fall behind, especially in the playoffs, because they will not be able to pass the football effectively enough to come from behind. Be honest, what kind of chance would you give Michael Vick to be able to lead a 80 yard drive with two minutes left to go? The INDISPUTABLE Truth is that as long as Michael Vick is playing out of position the Falcons will never win a World Championship. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Falcons should either change the offense up or change they're QB. In my opinion it's that simple. I also wonder how short of a leash Jim Mora Jr. is now on.
Looks like the Falcons are considering a shake up. With both Dunn & Norwood dinged up this week they are looking to use Vick as a RB against the Cowboys. Apparently Mike isn't too fond of the idea.
