Dre Bly doesn't normally say too much. So, whenever he's ultimately moved to words, people take notice.

Bly, the Detroit Lions cornerback, was voted to the Pro Bowl Thursday as the team's lone representative. There was one play this season that was the ideal example of why Bly has earned so much respect among his teammates and peers in the NFL.

It was the 11th game of the season, against the Minnesota Vikings, and the Lions were inept on offense, trailing 7-0 at halftime.

Bly stormed into the locker room and unleashed a tirade against his defensive teammates, imploring them to take matters into their own hands.

"If the offense isn't going to score, then we've got to do it," Bly yelled.

On Minnesota's third offensive play of the second half, Bly stripped the ball from running back Moe Williams and, as it popped up, Bly plucked it out of the air and began racing toward the goal line 79 yards away. However, Minnesota quarterback Daunte Culpepper had the angle on Bly, who didn't want to wait for his blockers to catch up to him. Instead, Bly baited Culpepper along the sideline and then flipped a lateral to Corey Harris, who ran the final 25 yards for the touchdown.

    Leader, playmaker and unselfish teammate.

Unlike the overweight underachiever Chris Claiborne.
