There was already a link earlier in the thread. Have you provided a link as evidence for your claims? I didn't see one.

"the date" is very specific. Find me a link that says it's not the date, but rather the "exact moment in time when the league receives the contract".

I don't understand where they are getting their "opinion" on how it works from, or why they believe it. I've never heard of it being done like that before, and I don't see why it would be now. Having until midnight of the final day is the only logical way.

no, I admitted not knowing. And am perfectly happy to be wrong. Was just the way I understood it to be. The old CBA stating from that date, I guess I'll go with that that time doesn't matter.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

There isn't a clear definition of how it works. His link didn't provide any information either. All it said was that the team would have seven days. That's great, all we've been saying is that a team will have three days. It doesn't say if it's at 11:59 PM or when the team submits the offer. This is pertinent. We're not quibbling over minute details here. However the league does it, that will effect whether or not we keep Batum. That's pretty damn topical for this thread. I have no idea why you guys are getting so butthurt about this. Nobody has been able to produce information one way or the other that clearly explains how the league handles the offers on RFA.

Which part of "the date" is escaping you?

Really, let it go. You were wrong. No big deal.

Nobody is butthurt. I am a bit confused why you continue to cling to something that clearly is not true, though.

Nobody is butthurt? I've been pretty much slammed for an opinion...... and apparently someone hates my avatar. If that's not butthurt, I don't know what is. You and I had already moved on and were discussing possible issues that would present themselves if it's actually 11:59 pm and some people still felt the need to take swings at RR7 and myself for a simple disagreement of opinion.

Who is butthurt? In my experience, the ones calling others butthurt are the ones who actually have something up their ass.

Taking swings? I asked a question. For about 3 pages you seemed so sure of your opinion, and I wanted to know why. I still haven't received an answer.. Stop being so sensitive man.

You're right, I didn't see Masbee's post. Randomly saying he hates your avatar is evidence of butthurt. Carry on.

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

This is exactly what I thought when I read that he was planning to meet with the Blazers after his Minnesota visit. Batum via his agent seemed to make quite the fuss during extension negotiations that the Blazers tried to low-ball him last fall. Now that they can come back and report what the market is willing to bear I think Nicolas would probably like to stay in Portland all things being equal, but they want to see if the Blazers are serious about paying him what he and his agent thinks he's worth ... or maybe take a very slightly less amount on a yearly basis for the fifth year option.

Depending on how things go later this week, I would say the signs are good that Nic remains a Blazer for the foreseeable future ... now whether or not this is a good thing from a cap management standpoint is another discussion -- 11-12 million per year is a lot of scratch for a guy that hasn't exactly wowed people with his killer instincts.

We could be looking back in a few years really regretting this decision (if he stays or if he goes).

Re: Minnesota wants Batum @ ~12M a year

    (Late to the party)...

I haven't heard anything in the CBA negotiations that they were changing the mechanism of the RFA ROFR other than the 7-days-down-to-three-days thing. As such, it's just like Millsap's, where you have until midnight on the third day to utilize the ROFR. Not seventy-two hours...not 4320 minutes...3 days.

And as for the queueing thing, I imagine it's like the trade deadline, where there's a queue of deals that were submitted at literally the last minute, and the league can take some extra time to go over in order to make sure everything's kosher and things like this don't happen. If it did come down to the chicken game (which I don't think it would) I'd imagine that we'd have a phone line into the NBA office and have them prepped, saying "if Hibbert is matched then we're matching Batum" or "if Hibbert's not matched then we're letting Batum go" or whatever.

But that 4-5 solid pages of arguing about seconds and broken faxes was fun reading. ;)

    Would you do this:

Williams, Johnson, and Ridnour for Batum, Smith, & a 2nd Round Pick....

Take out Johnson and I'd do it. Johnson is fodder but I like the potential in Williams.

Of course I'd do that. I can't see any reason why Minnesota would though. Williams was the #2 pick last year. They're going to trade him + 2 other players for Nic & garbage?

Haven't read through the thread, but can Derrick Williams play sf if they decided to do a sign and trade? I would much rather start him there than Babbitt and Claver.
