New Cosmos Signing Marcos Senna Arrives In New York
    [IMG]

After spending his whole career playing in South America and in Europe, Marcos Senna has arrived in New York City.

“New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world,” Senna said. “I just arrived and I am already looking forward to learning about this city.”

With his time at Villarreal coming to an end, the coveted veteran had many suitors in Spain and abroad but chose to continue his career in the NASL with the Cosmos.

“I wanted the opportunity to build something new,” he said. “The Cosmos are a growing team with an important history. With the NASL being a growing league, it is a great chance for me to be a part of something special.”

Senna took part in his first training session Monday. It was also the first time the team trained on the new practice field at Mitchel Athletic Complex

NASL Board of Governors Unanimously Approves Expansion To Jacksonville And Oklahoma City
    [IMG]

Soccer fans in Jacksonville, FL, and Oklahoma City, OK, will have a North American Soccer League team to cheer for when the 2015 Spring Season kicks off after the NASL Board of Governors unanimously approved expansion bids for both cities.

The NASL Board received presentations from groups representing four prospective expansion cities as part of two days of meetings being held in Dallas, Texas.

“We are delighted to be expanding to two cities that clearly have a passion for soccer, where we believe local fans will be excited to welcome our newest teams,” said NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson. “We have considered expansion to cities that meet specific criteria and most importantly have strong ownership groups that will provide a long and stable future for the NASL in those markets, which we clearly have in both Jacksonville and Oklahoma City.”

NASL Soccer Bowl 2013 To Be Played On November 9
Atlanta Silverbacks Park to host championship clash

The date is set. Atlanta Silverbacks Park will host NASL Soccer Bowl 2013 on Saturday, November 9.

The annual championship game of the North American Soccer League will crown the overall 2013 winner when the Spring Season champion Atlanta Silverbacks take on the team that emerges on top of the standings from the Fall Season, which runs from August 3 through November 2. The kickoff time for the game is to be confirmed.

“Silverbacks Park on November 9 is going to be the hottest ticket in town when the top two teams in the NASL battle for Soccer Bowl 2013,” said NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson. “The atmosphere there is already electric for regular season games, so with a championship on the line and the stands packed with fans, soccer fever in Atlanta will reach new heights.”

Classic Rivalry Heralds the Return of the New York Cosmos
North American Soccer League Announces 2013 Fall Season Schedule

MIAMI, Fla. (February 11, 2013) - A classic rivalry and the return of the iconic New York Cosmos to the world soccer stage highlight the opening weekend of the North American Soccer League 2013 Fall Season on August 3.

All eyes in the soccer world will be on New York as the irrepressible Cosmos make their long-awaited homecoming at Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium, the club’s home back when the original powerhouse of American soccer won its first NASL championship in 1972.

“August 3rd has been a long time coming for the entire Cosmos organization, the NASL and most importantly our fans,” Cosmos Chairman Seamus O’Brien said. “It's hard to describe how excited our team is. This is going to be a date that will be remembered for a very long time and we plan on making opening day a special one in New York.”

“We are extremely excited to announce the fall schedule under our new format and await the return of one the greatest soccer legacies ever,” said NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson.

NASL Announces Split-Season Format again for 2014
    [IMG]
Summer Break Allows for World Cup participation by fans

The North American Soccer League will position its mid-season break in 2014 to align with the FIFA World Cup and ensure fans are able to enjoy both competitions without missing a single game.

Joining the majority of the soccer world in avoiding a conflict with the game’s illustrious showpiece tournament, the NASL will break for the duration of the World Cup, which will be played from June 12 to July 13 in Brazil.

“Soccer fans everywhere anticipate the World Cup with great excitement every four years, so we recognize it is essential that NASL fans are able to watch the games from Brazil without a conflict,” said NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson. “This break to enjoy watching the world’s top international players in action will appeal to our fans, players, coaches and everyone associated with the NASL.”

In 2014, the NASL will retain the split season structure that rewards the winner of the Spring Season with the right to host the annual NASL Soccer Bowl against the winner of the Fall Season.

NASL clubs will play a shortened Spring Season from April 5 to June 7 and following the break for the FIFA World Cup the NASL action will resume from July 19 to November 15.

New York Cosmos Play To 1-1 Draw Against Gillingham FC
    [IMG]

The NASL’s New York Cosmos played to a 1-1 draw in a friendly against host Gillingham FC of the English Football League One at MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Friday.

The Cosmos, who are coming off a 2-1 loss earlier in the week to London’s Leyton Orient FC, took the lead in the 20th minute after a cross from Guatemalan forward Henry Lopez found the Bulgarian striker Stefan Dimitrov who fired it past Gillingham goalkeeper George Howard.

New York had the advantage closing second of the match when Gillingham forward Adam Birchall scored the equalizer past goalkeeper Chad Calderone for the 1-1 final.

"We played a very good game today,” said Cosmos coach Giovanni Savarese. “The guys played the way we wanted them to and it was a very enjoyable to watch.”

Sunshine Soccer Group Excited By Jacksonville NASL Support
    [IMG]

Sunshine Soccer Group (SSG) has released a temporary logo on the heels of Jacksonville being awarded a North American Soccer League expansion team on July 25.

“We have been overwhelmed with the support we’ve received from the community,” said Mark Frisch, CEO of Sunshine Soccer Group, team owners. “It’s important to us that we continue the momentum, and we’re excited to share our working logo with our fans as we begin the process of building our front office team and developing our brand.”

The design complements the Sunshine Soccer Group’s corporate logo both in color scheme and style. Featuring the silhouette of Jacksonville’s namesake President Andrew Jackson that appears on the city’s official flag, the colorful logo represents both the history and future of Jacksonville.

“Naming the team and developing our official logo is a significant process that will take some time to create,” said Frisch. “In the meantime, this temporary logo provides soccer fans a beautiful icon to rally around, with branded merchandise becoming available in the coming months.”

As reported on PrimeraHora.com, the vice president of the Puerto Rico Islanders, Jorge Pierluisi, revealed to the Puerto Rican online publication that they have informed the North American Soccer League (NASL) that they will not be back for the 2014 NASL Spring Championship Season.

While it’s public knowledge that the Puerto Rico Islanders have missed the entire 2013 NASL Season, it was somewhat of a disappointment that the club has decided to not to compete at all in the 2014 Spring Season. With the club’s inability to find a majority owner combined with the island’s recent changes within it’s government played a huge role in the Islanders decision to sit out until the 2014 NASL Fall Season.

For many NASL and Islanders supporters, this comes off as a disappointment. Since joining the NASL, the Puerto Rico Islanders have been one of the more consistent clubs in the league. For a program that has truly evolved, fans in New York will now have to wait until 2014 to see them. That is of course, they don’t fold.

Ottawa Fury FC Awarded OPDL License
18 Organizations to Take the Pitch in 2014

The Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) today announced that Ottawa Fury FC is one of eighteen clubs that have been awarded an Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) license for a two-year period. In 2014, teams will take to the pitch in the U13 age group. The OPDL will add the U14 age group in 2015, and will continue to add an age group in each successive year.

“The OPDL will not only provide a quality competition, but it will also encourage every Club to invest time and resources in order to put their players in the best possible conditions and help them maximize their potential,” said Fury FC Technical Director Phillip Dos Santos. “The project is ambitious for every Club and we need to realize how important competition is for the development of our young players, but we also know that the daily environment is just as important, therefore, we have also set our own standards. We believe the league will help us to provide our players with a longer period of competition, this is aligned with the plan we have traced for our program.”

How to Add NASL Teams to Your FIFA 14
    [IMG]

    1. Log into easports.com/fifa/football-club with the email address attached to your gamertag, username, etc.

    2. Scroll over "Web Apps" at the top and click Creation Centre.

    3. On the right you'll see a section for tournaments. Click Go.

    4. Expand the Advanced Search Options, search by author "blkbrnrvr" (mad props to this person if they're seeing it, remember to give it a 5-star rating).

    5. Find NASL in this list and click the little bookmark in the top left (you can confirm you've bookmarked it

    6. Start up FIFA and go to Creation Center under the Customize section of the main menu.

    7. Download the league (it'll take a while).

And that is it! You'll have an accurately-rated NASL to use in exhibitions (make sure the live roster thing is turned off) and tournament mode and if you pay, Career Mode. If you are using FIFA 13, you can do the same process, but search for the author "kllrblunt."
