Mirotic is 8th on the Bulls in 3 point percentage. Why is that?

Including McRoberts, who has taken just 53 shots all season. There are several on that list with few attempts.

You might check out his 3pt % vs all PFs. Looks to me like he's maybe in the top (best) 10.

It's silly to compare him to centers who shoot most of their shots from 6' or closer. They should have high FG%, let alone high TS%.

Your first link continues to show guys like McRoberts:

We know he took 53 shots all season.

How about you use a filter like minimum 200 3pt attempts.

OK, usage is a good data point to filter on.

He's a SF/PF this year, so "forwards" seems fair.

15% is a pretty high usage rate. let's change it to 10%. That gets rid of guys like McRoberts but keeps guys like Patrick Patterson, who I think is a good guy to compare Mirotic to.

    http://stats.nba.com/league/player/#!/advanced/?sort=TS_PCT&dir=1&PlayerPosition=F&CF=USG_PCT*GE*10|GP*GE*41

If we do that, he's 51st.

    ---

I'm not trying to prove anything. Just trying to get a handle on how efficient a scorer Mirotic really is in his rookie year compared to other NBA players. We've already established he's not a great 3 point shooter.

Now, he creates space for others and is a good defensive rebounder and passer, so he has other benefits of course.

I like points per shot to determine efficiency. Regardless of his FG%, he's scoring 13 points on 10 shots or something like that. I'll take that every time.

Btw, there are 30 teams, two forwards per. Being #51 makes him a starter on 10 teams.

As a PF, he'd be a starter on 20 teams.

Assuming guys with the best TS% start.

I am quite sure I'd rather play Mirotic than Dunleavy, regardless of TS%.

Yah, I like points per shot too.

Wouldn't TS% have a pretty direct correlation with it? Both count the threes and FTs and reward efficiency.

And yah, there is no doubt Mirotic is a good NBA basketball player.

TS% is a different formula than points /FGA.

Right, but there probably is a pretty direct correlation between points per shot and TS%. I didn't mention the formulas, which are of course different.

Zach Lowe on choosing Wiggins #1 and Mirotic #2 in his ROY ballot.

Sometimes we get a little too stats-happy. IMO, this is one of those times.

There are lots of excuses I can think of for why Mirotic's 3pt % is a tad low, but I don't see the point. The young man can shoot.

The emergences of Butler and Mirotic have taken some of the sting out of the troubling seasons of Noah and Rose. I was always fairly positive on Mirotic, but he's exceeded my expectations, particularly when it comes to rebounding and defense (the guy's a warrior). What a great pickup.

I didn't think he was quick enough to defend threes . . . was totally wrong.

Mirotic is wetting the bed in his first playoffs so far.

    PER of 5.9, TS% of 37.7 and a 3 point percentage of 28.6%. :(

Let's hope for some improvement. Or maybe he's hurt. I get that he's asked to play the 3 for some of that time and he's probably better as a stretch four, but 5.9 PER for a player that's supposed to be great and a building block is pretty unacceptable.

Interesting that Thibs played him at PF the last 4:00 of game 4 and most of Q4 in game 5. Both losses.

Not only that, but at the expense of Taj who I thought was great for the time he was in.

12 points on 8 shots in 14 minutes. 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal.

In a night we shot about 30%, you'd think we're better off playing the guy who made half his shots (4-8).

Or it could be Thibs figures it's worth seeing what Niko can do. It's not cost us the series. Yet.
