if you are logged on and you don't post for a while, it still shows you are logged on, so you post, then when you reply it goes to the you are not logged in... and i'm sitting there after spending at least 20 minutes responding and it gets wiped out! you can't even get it back
If you're clicking on REPLY WITH QUOTE don't begin right after the word QUOTE. Come down a few lines then begin your response. Make this post a test. It will work. Good luck.
i don't know for sure.. anyway matt23, first off i want to extend my thoughts & prayers to you & family, from what i have read on here you have faced many challenges in life.. God Bless!
matt23, as far as my career goes, at 17 i played for a team that won the Big League world championship, we were from nassau county, we beat allstars from suffolk county, then we played at gil hodges stadium and beat allstars from the 5 boros, then off to williamsport to play regiionals, beat eveyone there, from there we went to little yankee stadium in ft lauderdale beat all team from abroad, then had to beat team from the south twice to win the big league world championship, for which we won a ring , i was given title honorable mention all world as the SS on team. less then a year later i was selected within the first 10 rounds of the MLB draft, after that it was bad decision after bad decision and injuries that did me in.
my dad managed so i had no say in decisions, the money offered was just about what a college ed was worth so i decided to go to school, i was drafted 2 more x's, jr college, drafted high... to make a long story short, i was mostly a back up, and as you know its very difficult to complle good #'s, 1 year i did get the start but a serious injury to my foot, curbed that.
during my time with 1st org , got my shot when our#1 pick as traded and i got to play everyday, compiled some great #'s in a short period of time, got invited to instructional ball where you could not have played any better and everyone from org was there, next sping training i expected no less then AAA, it was AA, ened up back in A ball as you know what happnens in spring training with the domino effect
that same year i was released, then picked up by another org to which i did not want to play for, but i knew if i didn't go i would have not had a place to live,,, so i went back to be instrumental in winning another championship, next year in spring training i ended up again on AA roster again only to get released, i told story that was the year weight lifting was part of our routine in spring trianing, i was a SS , i couldn't move, i was not even part of spring training games, i knew i was doomed, was realeased as a result . it was a grat experience, got my fair shot amd made the best of it, was not good enough! my minor league #'s overall sucked, but i got my shot!! played with the big boys, competed, got their respect, but fell short.
Pasta hearing your story again makes he remember how long ago we were posting together on ESPN. I'm glad we're still around to chat with each other. As for the baseball cards you have to keep in mind if everyone saved everything they had they would be worthless. Much like the mass production of cards that started in the 80s. Not to mention it's imperative you get your cards graded and that's an expensive proposition. Some of the favorite sports cards that I own. Mario Lemieux #9 Rookie Card Derek Jeter Pinnacle Rookie 1983 Topps Wade Boggs Rookie Steven Strasburg and Bryce Harper Autographed Rookie Cards 1980 Rickey Henderson Rookie
Thanks Pastafazul........I look forward to reading the PM. I love nothing more than to read about anyone's baseball experiences, especially when they are in the pro's. I'm forever grateful. I'm reading Bouton's Ball Four for the 3rd time, since it came out. Been re-eading "Dimaggio" as well, for the 2nd time, both great classic books. I will relish your PM as much as those books, its just my baseball addic/Fan-atic nature......
I had that experience once, got logged off automatically, thought the post didn't take, then logged back in, and re-posted, to find both posts took, duplicates. that was my own ISPN tho'.
Yup and I want to say I joined up over there around 2001. I remember a few board changes during the time.
The years have certainly flown by. It's amazing some of us still remain around talking about sports. I do miss some of the characters from over the years on the main ESPN NFL board. That place was just a mad house. It made your local team's boards seem like a walk in the park.
I more than appreciate your sincerity Pastafazul....your well wishes and those of other board members, mean alot more to me, than I can ever put into words...those life challenges, I wish I could say, helped to give me insight into a hard world. I know we have our own pains, trials and tribulations. I don't like to say I have had more than my share, though those close to me tell me say otherwise. As Rick once enlightened me, "I thought I was bad off, when I had trouble walking, until I met a man who had no legs". Thanks, this board gives me a ton of relief, from the woes of life, and the many years of loss........to much to bear at times. yet, life goes on with or without me. You guys all pat yourselves on the back, not only are ya'll the best group of historians, Fan-Atic Yankee & Baseball Fans, your all a big great family, of which I am proud to call you brothers! (one need not be blood, to be a brother).
Wow, once again, INCREDIBLE bio...thank you for the insight. I really appreciate it. BTW-May you and yours be blessed always in all ways.
Amen, and a very rich bio first hand living the dream most every boy dreams of......utterly Fan-tastic to read about. Kudos to you Pastafazul.
