I would vote no. I'm of the firm belief that these billionaires should fund their own stadiums. The fact that they would love to use taxpayer dollars when they have this type of money is infuriating to me:

I visited PDX for work, for only a short time, 2 weeks ago. Holy shit was it nice. It looks nothing like what used to be there, and it actually was something to be proud of.

Well you should be happy, since there isn't a call for this to be paid for by tax payers.

Good. Why does it need to go before the legislature?

Last I heard is they want it to be covered by only taxes on MLB salaries. In order to do that they have to up the current law from the hundred or so million dollars that it was approved for in the early 2000s to closer to $1 Billion.

I’m all over that one. Hopefully I’ll be on number 3. Big rebuild on wind Turbines this summer and I built those towers. Sounds like I might be needed there.

Edit- I was on the crew that built those towers.

It will get better as the rest of the phases get completed. There is also another complete terminal on the drawing board for the next decade.

Oregon Senate Bill 5, for all intent and purposes, is basically a jock tax. It was created and passed when the Expos were threatening to move, and there was a need to show some kind of source of for funding of either building a new stadium, or renovating PGE/Providence.

It's probably the best thing that came out of that version of the "Bring MLB to PDX" movement.

The reason it is "going before the legislature" now is that they want to update it. Why update it? Well, it's based on 2005 (ish) salaries. Salaries have skyrocketed, and adjusting it to what the salaries would be today more accurately shows how much they could capitalize on the taxes created from the players and people associated with a new franchise (which would cover the bond iirc).

Also, this is only going to happen IF a team is moved here or an expansion franchise is granted to the city (etc). You, as a tax payer, won't pay a new tax either. The only increase you might see is maybe in ticket prices or merchandise bought from the team. But if you never go to a game or go to 81 games a year, this modification of Senate Bill 5, will not increase your tax burden.

I agree. Are they remodeling the baggage claim area downstairs ? It’s always dark and pretty outdated down there

I asked the "Oregon" info booth lady about that, and she said it's on the docket. But it's probably a year or more away.

And good lord is that part of the airport depressing.

It’s all planned and in the process. A lot of it is ready but the flights can’t stop and those logistics take a lot of planning or they lose luggage and that can’t happen.

The way they're going about and doing this is super impressive, esp with all the issues (flights, traffic, etc).

The airport obviously looks nice. I have always wondered why it’s important to a city though. I mean, an airport needs to function efficiently, but what does a billion dollars in nice ceilings and trees do for Portland? I’m honestly asking the question no need for people to start firing off insults like usual.

It’s pretty important for business and tourism. Not just functional but it needs to be something people don’t dread.

But do people not travel for work or pleasure due to the airport? I honestly don’t know. I’ve never given it a thought. I thought PDX won awards for being a great airport before the renovations.
