    I always felt like Portlands Art Scene was "ok", I think even in the State, Ashland has a lot going on. Could be that growing up around here I take it for granted?

    Go up to the Japanese Gardens up at forest hill park. I was on the crew that built the newest addition. It's a fantastic collection of art and beautiful scenery. There are a number of other places all through this city and state that will make you look again and again.

    Not denying the scenery aspect. The world is full of absolutely stunning places to see. Oregon is amongst some of the prettiest locals!

    We built three buildings up there. Two of them are full of some very nice artifacts. Old and new. There is and area where they paved the ground with tile that is some gorgeous work.

    Scene's expanded a lot in twenty years. Lately with the construction boom there's been a high demand for orginal work. And in general people who've been attracted to move here are consumers. Interesting related article:

    I speak as someone who's a member of PAM, use to (occasionally still do) attend First Thursday/Friday openings every month, travel nationally and internationally specifically to visit museums and view art, have friends who have or have had their own galleries and who have worked for PAM, OHS, and Disjecta. Portland's art scene is...mediocre.
