Well that's the thing, everything is circular in the 205-lbs division.

    Jardine > Griffin > Jackson > Liddell > Wandy > Jardine

    Changed anyways.

The thing with Shogun is he just hasn't fought because of injury and before that, he lost to Forrest. I think he is by far a top 2 LHW when he is healthy, but he needs to get there.

I think Liddell is better than Jardine, despite what happened. I think if you were to give Liddell a rematch, he'd win. Same with Page and Forrest.

Evans is #1 by default because he has the belt, but I don't think he'd beat Rampage. That is the thing with the 205 division, it is so stacked that one loss just throws you so far down the rankings, and one win propels you right back up.

I was checking out bloodyelbow's meta-rankings which is a compilation and average of 20 mma sites rankings.. they look very different from our own

    http://www.bloodyelbow.com/section/rankings

I like that system though.. kinda like rotten tomatoes. Take all the rankings and give it an average.

With Diaz in Limbo and having fought at 160lbs for elite, maybe he should be gone.

Hansen is getting a lot of respect, but he's seriously inconsistent and when facing high level competition he usually fails. He's still a great fighter to watch though.
The UFC's division is on the cusp of taking over. A lot of their LW fighters are are young and rising.

Here's Bloody Elbows compiled rankings for Welter Weight.. I'm surprised Sakurai is so low.. I guess it's because he hasn't fought a lot and has a recent loss.

Commentary by Kid Nate: The biggest movement on this months welterweight metas comes as a result of #4 Josh Koscheck having KTFO'd #22 Yoshiyuki Yoshida right out of the top 20 at UFN 16. Koscheck will be fighting again quick fast in a hurry, against one-and-done UFC newbie Paulo Thiago at UFC 95. #6 Diego Sanchez will headline that same event while making his lightweight debut against Joe Stevenson.

Otherwise the division has basically been in suspended animation, waiting for #1 Georges St. Pierre to test himself against #1 lightweight B.J. Penn at UFC 94 on January 31.

On the undercard of that epic fight, #3 Jon Fitch will be facing #25 Akihiro Gono while #2 Thiago Alves waits for the winner of Penn/GSP. #7 Matt Hughes and #9 Matt Serra will face each other sometime in the spring, possibly in May.

#8 Carlos Condit will likely defend his WEC belt against #15 Brock Larson in March. If he can fend off the game Larson for a second time, Condit will have utterly cleaned out the WEC 170lb division. Not sure what makes sense for him from there. I think its time for him to step up to the UFC.

No word on the fate of #5 Jake Shields. Sadly, its looking like he'll be trapped in the EliteXC morass for some time to come.

This whole division is basically on hold. #1 Anderson Silva is supposedly signed to fight #10 Thales Leites at UFC 97 but most seem to view that as an afterthought to the more interesting chatter about what 205lb fights Anderson may eventually sign. It would be pretty ironic if Leites goes ahead and pulls out the submission win.

Meanwhile #2 Yushin Okami continues to creep up the rankings and has been promised a title shot by Dana White even after his three round snoozer against #41 Dean Lister at UFC 92.

#3 Dan Henderson and #8 Rich Franklin are headlining UFC 93 but at 205lbs instead of 185. Compounding the confusion, the winner will move back down to middleweight to coach The Ultimate Fighter opposite #12 Michael Bisping. Franklin has been pretty vocal about not viewing that as much of an incentive. I don't blame him since it was the UFC's idea for him to move up to Light Heavy in the first place.

#3 Robbie Lawler is trapped in EliteXC limbo. At least Dana White is making noises about being interested in bringing Lawler back to the UFC when all that mess gets resolved.

#5 Nathan Marquardt is set to take on former Light Heavyweight #22 Wilson Gouveia at UFC 95. Nate's got to overcome a lot of hurdles to get a rematch for the title. Blowing his fight against Leites cost him a title shot.

#6 Gegard Mousasi impressed in his K-1 rules debut on NYE but I still view that as a waste of his time. Will be interesting to see what the K-1/DREAM organization decides to do in 2009.

#7 Matt Lindland is scheduled to face #26 Vitor Belfort on the 24th if that show actually takes place. Cross your fingers fight fans.

And saving the best news for last #9 Jorge Santiago wrapped up a great 2009 by finishing #15 Kazuo Misaki and taking the Sengoku middleweight title. Here's hoping Santiago returns to Strikeforce or maybe even the UFC sometime soon.

Here is our welterweight rankings compared to theirs... not much difference, really. We don't have Sanchez anymore since he's a lightweight. Swick is #11 on their list.

He's looked fantastic at middleweight but he needs a step up in competition--supposedly he asked for Franklin or Henderson so that is a good sign.

Commentary by Kid Nate: #1 Rashad Evans jumped to the top of the rankings with his TKO win over #3 Forrest Griffin at UFC 92. Quite a meteoric rise for Rashad, who was ranked #8 as recently as the August meta-rankings. But Rashad got there the old fashioned way -- he earned it.

#2 Quinton "Rampage" Jackson held his position by KTFO'ing #6 Wanderlei Silva at the same event. This sets up Jackson for a shot at Evans' title, although he claims he'd rather get his revenge on #3 Forrest Griffin before trying to reclaim the title.
Poor #4 Lyoto Machida. He was meta-ranked as high as #2 back in June before the title started trading hands. Now even if he beats #8 Thiago Silva at UFC 94, he still won't get a title shot.
It's still unclear who's next for #5 Chuck Liddell. Rumors he'll face #1 Middleweight Anderson Silva at UFC 100, or rematch #6 Wanderlei Silva or even #9 Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (assuming Rua beats Mark Coleman at UFC 93) have all been floated.
#7 Keith Jardine won't be his next opponent, despite Chuck requesting a rematch. Jardine will instead be fighting #10 Luis Arthur Cane at UFC 97.
If the January 24th Affliction show actually happens, #11 Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will face #12 Vladimir Matyushenko and try to avenge his 2002 decision loss to "the Janitor." On that same cross-your-fingers-but-don't-hold-your-breath-that-it'll-happen card, #14 Renato "Babalu" Sobral is scheduled to face #17 Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. You can say what you want about their disastrous business decisions, but the Affliction guys do seem to pay attention to the meta-rankings.

Commentary by Kid Nate: You might think that the buzz would be huge heading into Affliction's January 24th show since the headlining fight is matching up #1 Fedor Emelianenko with #2 Andrei Arlovski. But no, people can't even be bothered to care it seems. Honestly I'm feeling more suspense about whether the fight will happen at all than about who will win.

On the same card #3 Josh Barnett is scheduled to fight the entirely unranked Gilbert Yvel -- provided Yvel can get a license to fight in California. I'll be glad to see Barnett in the ring, but honestly Sengoku could've gotten him a better opponent -- like #18 Antonio Silva.

Part of Affliction's problem is that the UFC has done a great job of creating a sense of legitimacy around their two heavyweight belt-holders #5 Frank Mir and #6 Brock Lesnar. Their wins over #4 Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and #7 Randy Couture shocked a lot of people and honestly I think many people consider Lesnar the most dangerous heavyweight around right now, even if people are reluctant to rank a 3-1 fighter at the top.

#10 Alistair Overeem continues to build buzz, even his K-1 rules fight on NYE seems to have juiced his standing in the MMA world. KTFO'ing the world's best kick boxer will do that for a fighter. Rumors about Overeem talking to the UFC have been swirling.

I have to protest the Heavyweight rankings!!!! Mir is still under Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera??? Don't get me wrong Noguiera's past is historic and epic to say the least but Mir just wiped the floor with him in December! Mir is on top of his game and should be higher than 5! I would argue moving him up to #3 even!

I think it's fair. Mir jumped 5 spots with one win and Nog dropped from #2 to #4. One win or Loss shouldn't automatically mean you're great or done IMO.

LOL you have Aoki higher than BJ in the P4P list but vice versa in the LW list.

I'm finding it hard to not have GSP higher than Silva and Fedor since he's actually faced someone on the P4P list.
Still Fedor and Silva are monsters too, but GSP has faced one of the best fighters in the world and owned him. If Fedor faces and beats Josh Barnett, he's would be #1 IMO.
