that makes more sense. When they talk about re-visiting talks; I think that means it depends on who is available at #8 and whether either team can find a better deal first.

Don't know about basketball but fanrag hired one of the most plugged insiders in baseball (john heyman) so they're probably legit. Article makes sense too. I've said for awhile that Olshey would get aggressive and try to get into the top 10.

Isaac is compared to Rashard Lewis on Nbadraft.net, I wouldn't mind that at 8 and for Harkless if he drops that far.

I'm guessing it's garbage because it says a source said Portland HASN'T had talks with any team regarding it's players, and I was all but vilified for saying the same the thing about Harkless to the Knicks.

In other news, who is at 8 that we are targetting? Could they really be after the next great white hype?

I think Bolden is a "sleeper" version of Isaac

Olshey doesn't leak locally but he does get things out nationally especially to Woj. That said, if this rumor came from a smaller market like MIL, I doubt we'd hear much about it. It's partially because it is the large market Knicks/Nets.

You know what? Give me Carmelo. If it doesn't work out at least we can save money when he opts out.

Harkless, Leonard, Ezeli, #15 and #26 for Melo and KOQ.

Saw Festus at the airport yesterday. He didn't seem to be very positive that he would be back....not surprising.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Carmelo has had some decent stints as small ball power forward. He's no longer that great at beating other wings, but he still has the match-up advantage against most power forwards. His defense has also been a little better at power forward, as I recall. He's strong enough to hold up in the post and his declining athleticism is less of a hindrance. The problem is, he's generally resisted the role in New York. If he was willing to do it in Portland, I'd be somewhat intrigued.

Of course, it's unlikely he'd even want to come here, let alone make a concession like that. I'm not particularly interested in him as a small forward, at this stage in his career.

If Mo has hit his ceiling, then I think we can do better by looking at other SF options.
Sorry, but Mo isn't average as a starter. He's an average bench player.

Our 5th or 6th guy doesn't have to be an all-star, but it would be nice if they were elite (or close to it) at one aspect of the game. Be it rebounding, defense, 3pt shooting, etc.

Hell no. I wouldn't want Carmelo even for free. Let alone give up Harkless and 15 for him. The dude isn't a good NBA player.

As I've always said, I want an elite SF (and/or SG) - dominant wings are generally the easiest way to a championship.

But there aren't many (4) SFs that shoot better than he does - that's pretty nice when your 4th-6th option can shoot 50% from the floor.

    http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/...dGoalPct/seasontype/2/position/small-forwards

Tell me, what SF are we able to get who would be better than Harkless? We're not getting any of the 4 that shoot better than him. We're not getting Kawhi, Hayward, Barnes or Wiggins. We're not getting George or Butler without giving up CJ. We don't have cap space to sign Gallinari, and even if we did do we want to shell out $10M over what we're paying Harkless to get him? So we're looking at:

    Ross (no thanks)
    Chandler (no thanks)
    Harris
    Warren

What would we have to give up to get Harris or Warren? If they could be had for some combo of Crabbe/Turner/Aminu/Davis/Harkless, then sure - fire away. If not, then any gain at SF isn't worth the price paid.

He's not at all. Bad defender, bad efficiency from inside the arc, average 3pt shooter, doesn't pass, is on the decline, is a diva.

He's a volume scorer who has worse efficiency, defense and passes less than Rudy Gay.

    But keep LOLing or whatever.

Crowder or Middleton (Crowder is much more likely).

Yeah, the 10x all star isn't a good NBA player. Nice take.

On the decline? He had a better season than last year. Average three point shooter? Shot 36% this year and has had multiple seasons of shooting over 40%. Not bad considering how much he shoots, and the type of shots he has to take. There's a difference between a Melo look and a Harkless look. Diva? How?

When he's surrounded by great players (team USA) he very often is the best player on the court. There's value in his "volume" scoring. Not many guys in the league can get you a bucket or take over a game as easily as Melo can. He would open up the offense. If Melo is traded, the team trading for him will be buying low. That's something I can get behind.

Also, it would make Portland more of a destination for veterans. They will want to come here. Melo has that kind of star power/respect. That's worth Harkless and a couple of picks.
