This merry-go-round is getting ridiculous. We've already lost Jamal Crawford (great fit with ATL), Stephen Jackson (one of CHA offensive weapons already before the ink is dry on the contract) and now Monta Ellis (I'm sure we'll get pennies on the dollars for him). Not to mention all the players like Chris Webber we lost in the past because that fat, dumb bastard and *sshat of a coach, Don Nelson, can't get along with them. I have to say Anthony Randolph will be next after Ellis and maybe Andris Biedrins after Randolph. Nobody wants to play for Nelson unless its freaky guys like Vladimir Radmanovic. Fire Nelson now just to stop the bleeding. Maybe Ellis will lessen his trade demands if Smart takes over. Now will the Nelson supporters admit that he does not develop rookies? He just ends up getting into feuds with them after they develop themselves. We're back to being a farm system for the rest of the NBA again -- where players get better AFTER leaving the Warriors.
We definitely don't need Kirk Hinrich because we already have the next Steve Nash in Stephen Curry or does he have to get into a feud with Don Nelson and get traded to the Knicks in order to prove it? It's better we get a center who can shoot jump shots like Amare*. * After we give Amare the biggest contract of his career, he'll want to leave in less than a year's time because of feuding with Nelson .
I'm so sick of players saying where they want to be traded to. No one gives a shit what you want. That only mattered when you signed the contract that you aren't living up to. And I really hope the Warriors don't feel pressured to get back expirings or mediocre prospects for Monta. He's one of the best young scorers out there. There's nobody on Houston that I would take for him other than maybe 2 lottery protected firsts. As for Miami, I'd take Beasley and even that is questionable. I think they are similar level young players but I'm not too thrilled about taking back a guy with off court issues becuase you know that they will become worse in Oakland.
Hinrich was 2nd team all defense in 2007. He plays good defense. I didn't know this until I was told otherwise and started to pay attention. IMO, his defensive contributions would be better than Monta's offensive contributions but who am I to say that? I could definitely be wrong about that. Also, Marcus Thompson is reporting that there has been no meeting set with Ellis' agent, Jeff Fried, and Larry Riley, but that Fried was going to be in town to co-promote the Andre Ward fight and it's normal protocol to meet with agents when they roll through. http://www.ibabuzz.com/warriors/2009/11/18/game-10-3-7-cavaliers-114-warriors-108/ But, I still think there's a problem with Monta and Nelson.
Coincidentally, there's a similar discussion about Hinrich on GSoM: http://www.goldenstateofmind.com/2009/11/17/1162164/very-realistic-monta-ellis-trade It's actually Ellis/Maggette for Hinrich/Deng. While Hinrich's salary decreases over the next two years, Deng's increases...substantially. It's also an extra year longer than Maggette's. In his final year, Deng will be paid 14M. That's a lot. Who knows what the salary cap will be in 3 - 4 years, but 14M against any cap is a lot, especially for a player who's had injury problems. But, he's a 3 that rebounds and defends pretty well. I'm reposting a post by user onlxn who makes some good points:
Let's look at the history: Webber had a problem with Nelson; Wright; Randolph; Monta. Anyone I'm leaving out?
I don't think Chi has a lot of interest in Monta. Like someone else mentioned, too similar to Rose and I believe they're trying to get in on the big 2010 offseason. I also doubt Miami is interested for the same reasons. I believe they'll have the most or second most cap room this offseaseon and why shouldnt they believe they can re-sign Wade and land one other huge star. Monta is like a poor man's Wade and he'll always be available for trade should they lose out on Bron, Bosh, Joe Johnson, etc. etc. Anyway, I saw Monta smiling last night and it looks like he HAS picked up some of the load on the court. Lol @ how long it took him to figure out the drive-and-kick but its been effective the last game or two. Despite another loss the team played good basketball against a tough team in their house. I still think his likelihood of being moved is rather high but I see no rush to move him if there isn't a major problem currently.
Okay, you're preaching to the choir. I don't need to be reminded a million times about the "history." I get it and am not oblivious to it.
It's probably easier to just like guys who haven't had a problem with him (yet). ------------------------ I'll agree with Run BJM's sentiments regarding Monta. I don't see any logic to him as a Chicago Bull. Honestly, I don't see any obvious trades that make much sense. Talent wise the Warriors are fine at 1, 2 and 3. Their problem is they're missing the best pieces out of what was already a thin and iffy frontcourt. I'd simply hang on and see what happens when everyone is healthy and you can see what you've really got.
