Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Impact close Mexico camp with 1-1 tie against Atlas Nyassi scores for Montreal as club goes undefeated in trip GUADALAJARA, Mexico – The Montreal Impact closed out their preseason friendlies down south with a 1-1 tie against Mexican Primera División side Atlas in 82-degree weather on Thursday. Sanna Nyassi got the goal for the Impact in the 57th minute, striking a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner from just inside the penalty area after playing a neat one-two with striker Eduardo Sebrango. Atlas tied the game in bizarre circumstances three minutes later, when Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush was fed a slightly underhit backpass, which he tried to punt upfield only for it to rebound off a charging Atlas striker and into the net. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/01/26/impact-close-mexico-camp-1-1-tie-against-atlas

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Physical conditioning essential in training camp Adam Rotchstein plays critical role in team's preparation A soccer team’s physical training is a critical component when preparing for a long, 10-month season. Even more so for the Impact, an expansion side in Major League Soccer, where the players come in from all different locations with all different levels of conditioning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpOFyN8fmQI&feature=player_embedded Therefore, the Impact’s physical conditioning coach, Adam Rotchstein, must ensure that the players all end up on the same page physically. “We’ve played some 30 and 40-minute periods in Mexico,” said the former Chivas physical preparation coach. “Going into Los Angeles, players will play 45 to 60 minutes, and eventually a full 90-minute game.” http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/01/physical-conditioning-essential-training-camp

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Montreal roster holding steady ahead of California trip Agourram was released after the camp in Mexico, but Marsch believes there could be a spot for him on the roster sometime in the future. “Agourram did OK down in Mexico, but with his age and experience, we felt the most important thing for him right now is to get games,” Marsch explained. “We’re trying to maintain links with different clubs in the NASL, so we hope to continue a relationship with Reda so he can play in the second division, establish himself within a team and we could evaluate how he’d fit with us a year from now.” While the club doesn’t seem in much of a hurry to add players, Marsch did admit to making an offer for former Philadelphia Union striker Sébastien Le Toux, who was instead dealt to Vancouver. The British Columbia club simply made a better offer, according to the Montreal gaffer. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/02/01/impact-roster-holding-steady-ahead-california-trip

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Montreal continue to hold their breath on injured Rivas The Montreal Impact continue to hold their breath over Colombian defender Nelson Rivas, who has yet to train since suffering a thigh injury more than a week ago. Rivas came up lame during the Impact's scrimmage with Mexican club Atlas on Jan. 26, part of their preseason camp in Guadalajara, Mexico. The former Inter Milan man hasn’t participated in training since, and had already sat out a number of practice drills during prior training sessions. Impact spokesman Patrick Vallée told MLSsoccer.com on Monday that the club is still unsure how long the Colombian will be sidelined, but added that Rivas did make the trip to Southern California with the team for its second preseason camp and he’ll be assessed by team doctors there. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/02/06/montreal-continue-hold-their-breath-injured-rivas

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Hello, Old Friends What was it like for Ching to face Houston for the first time? Watch Highlights: http://www.mlssoccer.com/video/2012/02/08/pre-season-highlights-hou-2-0-mon CARSON, Calif. – As it turns out, Wednesday wasn’t that weird for Brian Ching. The veteran striker, whose selection from the Houston Dynamo by the Montreal Impact in the 2011 Expansion Draft ranged from “contentious” to “outright hostile,” didn’t mistakenly pass to the guys in orange. He didn’t ignore the guys in blue, and he certainly didn’t sulk or put in a half-hearted effort. Instead, he just did what he usually does – put in an honest shift, keep the central defense busy and create a few chances in his 45 minutes on the pitch. In the end, his old side won, with the Dynamo taking a 2-0 result from Montreal thanks to a pair of second-half goals. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/02/08/ching-all-business-facing-dynamo-first-time
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Adjusting to speed of play the next step for Montreal CARSON, Calif. – It didn’t exactly work out as the Montreal Impact had hoped Wednesday morning at the Home Depot Center. Their first friendly against MLS competition saw them lose 2-0, saw them struggle to create chances and saw forward Justin Braun limp off the field in the second half after being on the wrong end of a hard, high challenge from Houston Dynamo trialist Óscar Recio. In short, it was a rite of passage: Welcome to the league, Montreal Impact. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/02/08/adjusting-speed-play-next-step-montreal

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) The Impact plays Portland on Friday New opponents also announced CARSON, California – The Montreal Impact is set to play its second preseason game in California on Friday, against the Portland Timbers, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, at 1:30pm ET. Impact head coach Jesse Marsch plans on using similar lineups against the Timbers as he did versus Houston last Wednesday. A third group of players will then play a 45-minute game against the LA Blues, which plays in the USL Pro league, North American third division. NEW OPPONENTS Aside from the matchup against the LA Blues tomorrow, the Impact announced on Thursday that it will play another 45-minute game against Chivas USA (MLS) following the February 14 matchup versus the LA Galaxy. In addition, the Impact will face off against UCLA on February 17, at 1pm ET and Ventura County Fusion, of the USL Premier Development League, at 3pm ET. "DP or not DP" Saputo Tweeted on Thursday afternoon. “On my way to Europe to meet with one of our prospects. Need to be patient.” Steven Goff of The Washington Post then tweeted that the target could be FC Lugano’s Dante Senger, an Argentine striker, but the Impact declined to comment. Either way, Marsch & Co. know that the job of building a locker room and establishing a club culture is still in its earliest stages, and that whoever comes in as a DP – be it Senger, or one of the various and sundry other targets floating around the blogosphere – will have to be a game-changer, a leader and, most importantly, the right fit. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/02/09/while-montreal-hunt-dp-marsch-emphasizes-right-fit
