Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) MLS Commissioner Don Garber excited for Montreal He addressed the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal MONTREAL – The president of the Montreal Impact Joey Saputo and the Commissioner of Major League Soccer Don Garber addressed some 350 members of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal on Wednesday, at the downtown Le Centre Sheraton. With less than a month until the Montreal Impact’s inaugural game, Garber discussed the positive effects of the arrival of MLS in the province and the importance of Montreal joining MLS. “We are very excited to be in Montreal,” said Commissioner Garber. “The large crowd in attendance today goes to show how dedicated you all are in developing something for your community that bring them together and celebrate something very special.” Garber, in his address, discussed the growth of the league as attendance is at an all-time high, with some 18,000 fans taking in MLS games on average last year, and discussed what he thought the future might be. “Our goal is not to compete with the NHL, the NFL or MLB as we are very different from them,” he added. “Our goal is that when people think of La Liga (Spain), the English Premier League or Italy’s Serie A, they think of MLS as well.” http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/02/mls-commissioner-don-garber-excited-montreal
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Childhood pals Valentin, Wenger reunited in Montreal CARSON, Calif. – From the first moment many children kick a ball around at the playground with their friends, they dream of playing under the bright lights of the professional ranks together. Not many get the chance to do that, but for Zarek Valentin and Andrew Wenger, that dream will become a reality this season in MLS. Childhood pals from Pennsylvania, both will suit up for the Montreal Impact in 2012 and, potentially, the US Under-23 Olympic squad. When Valentin, a second-year defender, learned that one of his buddies, MLS SuperDraft No. 1 overall pick Wenger, would be joining him at Montreal, he was beyond ecstatic. “If you ask anyone who was on the [US U-23] trip with us, they thought there was an emergency in my room,” Valentin told MLSsoccer.com last week. “I ran up and down the hallways screaming, 'Woo!' for 15 minutes because I didn’t know that he was getting drafted. I even asked the [Impact] staff before the draft, ‘Is there anything that you want to tell me?’ as a joke, and they said that they couldn’t tell me.” http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/02/16/childhood-pals-valentin-wenger-reunited-montreal
