Montaño looks to seize opportunity with the Impact
    [IMG]
Colombian forward is out to impress

Miguel Montaño realizes that he has a unique opportunity with the Montreal Impact, and he is looking to seize it.

With the support of what he says are great fans, the Colombian believes that the newest MLS franchise has a wealth of talent and will surprise many teams, hopefully ending the playoff drought for Canadian teams in MLS.

"We have a good squad. I think the new players and the new gear will get us started on the right foot, and with a good preseason and strong friendlies, we should have a good start," said Montaño.

A lot of improvement between Houston and Portland games

Impact assistant-coach Mauro Biello likes what he is seeing in Los Angeles.

The ex-forward is satisfied with the progress made by the players during the two games played against Houston and Portland last week.

“The intensity has increased every day,” said Biello. “The players have gotten to know each other on the field and we’ve seen a lot of a positives out there.”

MLS Commissioner Don Garber excited for Montreal
    [IMG]
He addressed the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal

MONTREAL – The president of the Montreal Impact Joey Saputo and the Commissioner of Major League Soccer Don Garber addressed some 350 members of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal on Wednesday, at the downtown Le Centre Sheraton.

With less than a month until the Montreal Impact’s inaugural game, Garber discussed the positive effects of the arrival of MLS in the province and the importance of Montreal joining MLS.

“We are very excited to be in Montreal,” said Commissioner Garber. “The large crowd in attendance today goes to show how dedicated you all are in developing something for your community that bring them together and celebrate something very special.”

Garber, in his address, discussed the growth of the league as attendance is at an all-time high, with some 18,000 fans taking in MLS games on average last year, and discussed what he thought the future might be.

“Our goal is not to compete with the NHL, the NFL or MLB as we are very different from them,” he added. “Our goal is that when people think of La Liga (Spain), the English Premier League or Italy’s Serie A, they think of MLS as well.”

Childhood pals Valentin, Wenger reunited in Montreal
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. – From the first moment many children kick a ball around at the playground with their friends, they dream of playing under the bright lights of the professional ranks together.

Not many get the chance to do that, but for Zarek Valentin and Andrew Wenger, that dream will become a reality this season in MLS.

Childhood pals from Pennsylvania, both will suit up for the Montreal Impact in 2012 and, potentially, the US Under-23 Olympic squad.

When Valentin, a second-year defender, learned that one of his buddies, MLS SuperDraft No. 1 overall pick Wenger, would be joining him at Montreal, he was beyond ecstatic.

“If you ask anyone who was on the [US U-23] trip with us, they thought there was an emergency in my room,” Valentin told MLSsoccer.com last week. “I ran up and down the hallways screaming, 'Woo!' for 15 minutes because I didn’t know that he was getting drafted. I even asked the [Impact] staff before the draft, ‘Is there anything that you want to tell me?’ as a joke, and they said that they couldn’t tell me.”

Montreal take EJ, but a trade is on the way

The Montreal Impact pulled the trigger and used their top spot in the allocation order to pick up one-time USMNT star Eddie Johnson. But don't bet on EJ taking up French lessons just yet as it seems Jesse Marsch is using him as trade bait.

Montreal send Johnson to Seattle for Neagle, Fucito
    [IMG]

Moments after the Montreal Impact announced they had acquired former US international Eddie Johnson via the allocation process, the trade rumblings began.

Roughly an hour later, Johnson was on his way to the Pacific Northwest, as the Seattle Sounders sent Lamar Neagle and Mike Fucito to Montreal in exchange for the 27-year-old striker, who spent the past four years bouncing from club to club after Fulham brought him across the Atlantic in January 2008.
