Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Recap: Stalemate in DC as Santos, Corradi find net WASHINGTON – Pretty would not be the right adjective to describe Wednesday night’s encounter between D.C. United and the Montreal Impact, but after a drab first half, the two teams shared the points after each side scored four minutes apart in the second half. Neither team threatened much in the first half, but Bernardo Corradi found the breakthrough for Montreal in the 69th minute, as he found space at the back post to head a Lamar Neagle cross in. It was the Impact’s fifth lead in a game this season, but it only took United four minutes to find an equalizer. Maicon Santos was allowed to fire away from 30 yards out, and a low shot beat Impact keeper Donovan Ricketts at the near post. In the first half, Montreal found themselves in several dangerous positions, courtesy of speedster Sanna Nyassi. However, Nyassi was adjudged to be offside on three different occasions, killing what could have been goal scoring opportunities. Corradi had a shot at the near post following a Davy Arnaud cross, but the effort was forced wide by the presence of United defender Brandon McDonald. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-04-18-dc-v-mtl/recap
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) The U21s set to meet Quebec Cup winners Coming off 1-0 win versus University of Vermont The Impact U21s are riding into tonight’s game against the Outremont Griffons in TMR, at 7pm, on a high note. The team is coming off some good performances in recent weeks, going undefeated in its last three pre-season games. The latest victory was a 1-0 triumph in Burlington, last Saturday, over the University of Vermont, a strong NCAA division-1 side. The team put in an all-around solid performance, aside from a 20-minute stretch to end the first half. http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/04/u21s-set-meet-quebec-cup-winners
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Mike Fucito traded to the Portland Timbers Mike Fucito is a Portland Timber. That might take a while to sink in, but it's true. The Montreal Impact traded the ex-Sounder to Portland on Friday in exchange for either a second-round SuperDraft pick or international roster slot in 2013, based on the forward's performance this season. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/soundersfcblog/2018034011_mike_fucito_traded_to_the_port.html
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Marco Di Vaio's agent said Marco would consider an offer from Montreal Federico Pastorello tells CSN's SoccerPlus that Marco Di Vaio could still join Montreal this summer, despite reports otherwise. Responding to news report out of Bologna, that Marco Di Vaio shut the door on a two-year $ 3.8 million offer from the Montreal Impact, the player's agent says there is still possibility that his client could end up in Canada after all. "I believe Marco is tired of seeing rumours sending him to North America. He's preoccupied to see Bologna avoid relegation and that's all that matters for him right now," Pastorello said in a phone conversation on Wednesday. Bologna has six games remaining in Serie A after defeating Cagliari 1-0 on Thursday (Di Vaio was left out of the lineup for this one). http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/content.php?3056-Di-Vaio-s-agent-says-client-might-still-go-to-MLS
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Old friends become new rivals Arnaud and Jewsbury to meet for first time in MLS http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/04/old-friends-become-new-rivals The Portland Timbers may not have had the desired start to their season following an active preseason campaign, however, a win against league leaders Sporting KC may have given them the boost needed ahead of their visit to the Olympic Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It has been almost two years since the teams last met, when they were both in the second division, waiting to make the jump to MLS. Midfielder Tony Donatelli had scored the game’s only goal to give the Impact the three points at PGE Park, on May 19, 2010. Montreal and Portland do share a rich soccer history, which should not go unnoticed. Saturday’s game should then be an interesting and much-awaited encounter between the two clubs. http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/04/opponent-watch-timbers-struggle-road
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Montreal VP: Stade Saputo will be ready for June 16 debut MONTREAL – Montreal Impact vice president Richard Legendre made it very clear to the local press on Thursday: Newly renovated Stade Saputo will be open for business when the Impact host the Seattle Sounders on June 16. “It’s progressing quickly, and we need it to progress quickly,” Legendre told reporters. “More than 50 percent of the work is now done. Stands are popping up fast, and we’ll be going at full blast until June 16. We’re working exclusively on that scenario – that we’re playing on June 16." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...l-vp-stade-saputo-will-be-ready-june-16-debut
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Strong's Notes: Impact of L'Impact John Strong examines MLS' newest team in Montreal Shared History The Impact’s ascension to MLS make it four of the last five expansion teams that are coming in off the back of years in the second division—more of a promotion than a complete development out of thin air. The Impact had been playing in the USL, or some form of it, since 1993 with three titles and six other semifinal appearances to show for it. They also were always amongst the league leaders in attendance in their Saputo Stadium, which is currently undergoing renovation to MLS standards. Also like the Timbers, the Impact had all of last year to try out players they could bring with them to the top level, though outside of Sinisa Ubiparipovic’s goal against Toronto the other week, they’ve struggled to make an impact (har!) so far this year. Montreal got four of their last game’s starters from the expansion draft, and have used trades to acquire three others. But wait, there’s more! Their captain is an experienced MLS player who comes over after a decade with Kansas City, Jack Jewsb—er, I mean Davy Arnaud. Their coach, Jesse Marsch, was a long-time MLS player who’s in his first lead position after a few years as an assistant with the US National Team. But, the similarities don’t end there http://www.portlandtimbers.com/news/2012/04/strongs-notes-impact-limpact
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) That Hit The Spot Corradi PK, Ubiparipovic clincher deliver Impact's second win MONTREAL – Once again, the Portland Timbers will rue that last quarter of an hour. The Montreal Impact scored twice in the final 15 minutes on Saturday for a 2-0 victory over the Portland Timbers at Olympic Stadium, the expansion side’s second victory of the season. Bernardo Corradi struck on a penalty kick in the 76th minute after Timbers newcomer Steven Smith was whistled for a handball in the box, then an unmarked Sinisa Ubiparipovic delivered the insurance goal after finishing a Davy Arnaud cross at the far post in the 84th minute. Portland have now conceded seven goals in the last 15 minutes of games this season. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-04-28-mtl-v-por/recap
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Rivas appears in friendly as road back ramps up MONTREAL – Former Inter Milan center back Nelson Rivas, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the Montreal Impact’s preseason trip to Mexico, made his long-awaited comeback during a friendly at Centre Claude-Robillard on a windy Sunday afternoon. Rivas helped the Impact keep a clean sheet as they thrashed Dartmouth College 5-0 thanks to a double by Eduardo Sebrango and goals from Hassoun Camara, Josh Gardner and Evan James. The Colombian seemed comfortable through the 60 minutes he spent on the pitch, winning the vast majority of his duels and running at ease. Rivas’ passing was a bit off in the early going, but he improved as the game went on, cleaning up his distribution and showing his passing range. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/04/29/impacts-rivas-appears-friendly-road-back-ramps
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Canadian championship starts in less than a week Inaugural tournament in 2008 put club on the map The Impact took the first ever Canadian title back in 2008 as a second division club, and had been the only Canadian side until TFC did it this year (2011-2012) to advance to the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League, and then qualify for the quarterfinals of the tournament against Santos Laguna. “There were two games that I feel were defining moments in our club’s recent history,” said Impact director of soccer operations Matt Jordan, who was the team’s starting goalkeeper that year. “The first was when we won the Canadian Championship in Toronto. That game gave us a lot of credibility in MLS circles.” “To be a second division club that qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League group stage and advance to the quarterfinals against Santo Laguna gave our club more international recognition. Hosting the first leg in front of a 55,571 spectators; that is what put us on the map, especially throughout the CONCACAF region. Those events helped us get to where we are today.” http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/04/canadian-championship-starts-less-week

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Kansas City, here he comes Impact captain returns to where it all started Last weekend, Impact captain Davy Arnaud had a homecoming of sorts, playing against long time team mate and friend Jack Jewsbury and the Portland Timbers for the very first time. This Saturday, he’s playing against his former team, Sporting Kansas City, in the city where he spent the last 10 years. “It will be pretty special,” said Arnaud. “Definitely when the schedule came out, it was one of the games that I took a look. Kansas City is a special place for me. I look forward to it.” As much as he may be anticipating the return, the former U.S. international will have to adjust to the changes that come with being the enemy on game day. “The whole weekend will be different feeling. Going to KC and staying in a hotel, sitting on the visitors’ bench, coming off a bus to the stadium for the game. It’ll be an adjustment, but I’m ready to go.” http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/05/kansas-city-here-he-comes
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Preview: Impact faces Eastern Conference leaders Sporting KC at LIVESTRONG Park on Saturday With the possibility of playing seven games in just 22 days (with Canadian Championship play), the Impact technical staff plans on bringing in some fresh legs on Saturday. Defenders Nelson Rivas and Hassoun Camara are set to see their first game action of the season following lengthy injures that kept them on the sidelines since preseason. “We’re going to have a lot of new faces on Saturday, but we are still expecting to put a good team on the field and go for the result,” added Marsch. “Hassoun has really moved himself along and he looks sharp, and so has Rivas.” “It’s really easy to play with Nelson,” said Camara. “He has such great experience from playing in Italy. He is very confident and calm in the back. I hope that the injuries are behind us and we can contribute to the team’s success, beginning with a result on Saturday.” http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/ne...-leaders-sporting-kc-livestrong-park-saturday
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) From Kansas City, Montreal Impact sporting director Nick De Santis held a conference call with members of the media this morning to address statements made by Italian forward Marco Di Vaio from Serie A’s Bologna concerning interest in joining the Impact in MLS. “The Montreal Impact is very pleased that the club is in consideration for Marco Di Vaio’s next career move,” said De Santis. “We made an offer to him for a year and half, plus two more at a club option. He will come to Montreal at the end of May to visit the club and see the city. There is still work to be done." http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/05/club-statement-impact-address-marco-di-vaio-comments
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Road win! Impact wins 2-0 in Kansas City KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The expansion Montreal Impact stunned Sporting Kansas City 2-0 at Livestrong Sporting Park on Saturday night, handing the hosts their second straight loss – both shutouts – after a 7-0-0 start. Montreal won their first road match and recorded their first back-to-back MLS wins in club history and are unbeaten in their last three matches. Sporting – who were coming off a bye week – conceded two goals in a match for the first time this year and saw their scoreless streak reach 205 minutes. Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Rivas' dynamite debut lifts Impact's defensive potential MONTREAL — Montreal Impact fans had longed to watch him play, and the wait was undeniably worth it. Colombian defender Nelson Rivas made a sensational debut to his MLS career on Saturday night in the Impact’s 2-0 upset of Sporting Kansas City. Despite not having taken part in a competitive game since March 2011, the former Inter Milan center back turned in a Man of the Match-worthy 60 minutes and displayed his vast array of defensive skills, as evidenced by the five interceptions, six clearances and three recoveries he made, as well as the four tackles he won. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...amite-debut-lifts-impacts-defensive-potential
